Just wondering what everyones opinion is on getting a resume/cover letter professionally written? Is it worth the money?

I feel that my resume is currently strong, but it does not compare to the samples professional resume companies are offering....

IMO it's only worth the money if you're seeking a high level position. If you're at entry/intermediate level, you're competing with a ton of people and even with professional help, your resume will look the same.

Of course, if you're really busy or hopelessly bad at writing resume, then it comes worth it too. For the average person, I think doing research on the internet will generate at least a satisfactory resume. Creativity creates the above average resume.

what's on the resume is more important, not how it's wriiten, alot of time they only look at your title and conpany, don't go much into deatils. are you getting interviews?

you can tell a resume that's well written. I wouldn't pay much as you can get great advice on the internet for free.

I've had professional help and it is worth something. But the content has to be yours.

Depends on the situation. I mean people pay for tutoring yet you can just tell them to save their money and learn from the internet. Not the same all the time though right.

I would agree with the other posters, but I would like to add that if you do wiegh the situation and decide to get yours professionally done, I would suggest you stay clear of resume world in toronto. I know people who have gone there and have told me that the person doing the resumes just throws a lot of buzzwords at you and then does a mediocre job for an exorbitantly high price. So my advice would be to interview anyone you are thinking of going to and check to see if they are certified professionals who can offer testimonials.

Become your own "professional" resume and cover letter writer and it will pay dividends.

If you hire someone else to do it, you will probably get some copy & paste job from the same template they sell to everyone.
