I've been eyeing the Asus Zenbooks but realize that Ivy Bridge is just being introduced. Is it worth the upgrade if I can get the older generation for a few hundred less (on clearance)? Also, I noticed that the same model, with the updated processor tends to weigh more. I'd prefer something less than 3lbs (for a 11.6") but I'm not sure if this is possible with the latest models.

The older version had a lot of issues, they didn't just upgrade the CPU with the new line of zenbooks. Apparently there was things wrong with the trackpad, keyboard, screen bleeding among other things that led the old zenbook to get bad reviews. Also the new Zenbooks weigh ~2.8 lbs last time I checked. You should check it out in person and see if these issues would be something that hinder your purchasing decision before taking the old Zenbook over the new one.

Thanks for the reply. I did spend about 5 minutes trying it out at the store yesterday and didn't notice anything too terrible, but I'll look more into the negative reports before I make my decision.

Just get the Zenbook Prime. As Adevictus said, the original Zenbook had a lot of issues. Secondly, power efficiency is pretty good with Ivy Bridge. On my 2012 MacBook Air I'm getting an hour more of battery life than the 2011 model.
