View Full Version : GTA: charity to donate 27" tube TV

I have this 27" tube TV, it's in very good condition and I'd like to donate it to a charity.
I'm in the GTA and I'm willing to drive to the location to drop the TV.
Do you know of any charity or institution willing to accept it?
I already contacted a local school near to my home, but they cannot accept it.
Thanks.

Are you looking for a tax receipt...?
Good idea, that is deductible in my income tax, right?
Do charities provide tax receipts?

i don't know any charities (and I volunteer for a few) that would want a CRT . they have no ATSC tuners, can't be hooked up to computers, etc.
even places like Value Village no longer take CRTs. just leave it out for the trash (http://www.toronto.ca/target70/electronics.htm) or post it on Craigslist (although there are tons already)

Put it free in the RFD Free Stuff. Someone may take it make use of it. Maybe use it for a future Best Buy trade-in event.
People can get a brand new 32 inch LCD for $300. If you can't afford that, you shouldn't be able to afford cable.

I don't think anyone wants this stuff because they can't sell it.

How can a donation driven business refuse something? You are giving them a working appliance; can they really refuse it? Actually, I had a similar incident. I went and donated a few things like a garbage bag of old clothing and a toaster oven. No sooner than I laid it on the ground near their designated donation area, a worker hurriedly came out to inspect the items; she took a look at the toaster oven which was in fair shape but a little dirty and asked in a rather patronizing manner 'does it even work'? I just muttered 'sometimes' and got in my car and drove off.

Giving to charity isn't equal to getting rid of your old garbage. Charities must dispose of broken/dirty, etc items left and that cost money. People would give anything, junk, because "well, it's for charity". Of course they want to know if an item works!
Now I agree that some charity are very picky.

I have given Salvation Army a few working electronic items before, including a 32" flat screen CRT. You can always ask someone at a Thrifty Store location to see if they will take your tv.
