BitDefender has been in the news lately for all the right reasons. They are # 1 in antivirus technology. Now the Sphere which is the ANDROID/PC/MAC antivirus retail product has launched at Canada Computers only. Its available at $ 85 dollars for UNLIMITED COMPUTERS/MACS/ANDROID Phones. Check out their website: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=531&item_id=050446
Sells for $99 normally, but this offer is now $ 85. This is brand new software folks. Just released, not in the big box stores yet. Also available at the Canada Computers stores but in limited quantities I am told, so get it while it lasts. Nothing beats unlimited device protection, folks. Time to cash in. This is the offer of the year.

How long have you worked there?

Avoid anything that calls itself Mac antivirus. Fail.

I use Panda Cloud Antivirus and it's great...and it's FREE. There are tons of free antivirus programs out there now. It's a very bad idea to pay $85 for that program IMO OP.

Yeah..
Also having anti-virus on your android can be very useful depending what you do on your phone.
Widespread Android Virus (http://news.yahoo.com/widespread-android-virus-could-hide-popular-app-updates-173217628.html)

But malware has made its way into the Google Play store in the past, and, in some instances, has stayed there for months at a time.
Grow up guys..
P.S. MSE/Avast/Bouncer ftw

First part about android I was being serious - don't have an android, so I was curious. I don't think I've ever seen an AV for a mobile OS.

Second part about the mac was a joke. But thanks for the hefty research! lol

I googled 'Mac Virus' 1st and 4th result brought up were the ones I linked to after glancing through.

I also googled 'Android Virus' and the second result was the one I linked to.

Not exactly hefty research :|. I'm glad you appreciate it though :)

If you google 'Google Android Antivirus' you will find lots of results.

I was being sarcastic (except for the android, I don't research android). I know about Apple dropping the claim from their site - sneaky, and as I said I was kidding about the mac comment.

Anyways, happy policing!

I'm cool if mods want to update the ways they mod, but they got to be as consistent as possible :)

The best anti-virus? You! Half the time viruses infiltrate your computer is because you visited a website that capitalized on a vulnerability (Keeping your browser and OS up to date helps prevent most of these disasters). Other times it is because of chain mails or random attachments that you open.

Anti-viruses are meant to help further reduce your chance of getting a virus. What I don't like about these software companies is how they make it sound like they can ward off anything. Virus creators are not robots. They are constantly changing the way they write these viruses to avoid detection. Heuristics can help prevent potential threats, but nothing is 100%.

A good anti-virus therefore, is one that contains heuristics, low in resource foot print, protects most against most viruses and root-kits and most importantly, does not interfere with your software (ie: games). For that, I use ESET NOD32. If there's a deal on that, I'd jump on it.

Please dont ruin our Forum community with this non-value-added crap.

I personally use AVG Free edition (it missed one virus just two weeks ago, and I had to manually remove the ransomware myself). Kaspersky caught it, Norton caught it, but the others I played with did not. I still use AVG Free because one Virus in 3 years I am okay with. It's not like I store sensitive crap on this PC.

I also noticed Avast was highest downloaded anti virus on download.com/ cnet.com, forgot which one.
Here, take a look: http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.html

I used to review BitDefender when I used to run my old site and did product reviews and it was one of the worst ones out there. I used to purposely infect virtual machines and let the antivirus program do its job and Panda always came out on top. It used to scan before it loaded Windows to check if there were viruses.

As for Android having viruses, wouldn't surprise me. The next biggest targets for malware are iOS and Android not Windows anymore.

I've hopped around free versions and have friends try different ones when I reformat their PCs and free has always been sufficient BUT as OP suggested common sense is the real key. Unfortunately friends and family who are not tech-oriented just click and download everything without reading and need a reformat about every 6months regardless of what antivirus program they run (most don't even do a regular scan if the AV doesn't have the option in free versions, think avast was like that).

I'm currently using Microsoft SE. I didn't mind Avast but then they started using adpopups and that woman's voice saying I've been updated got annoying. For anyone unsure about this stuff simply use MS SE, AVG, Avast, Avira or Panda (http://filehippo.com/software/antimalware/antivirus/), set a scheduled scan for once a week and stop using frostwire, limewire, bearshare, or whatever p2p you have. Maybe try mp3skull.com instead.

I think the next round of reformats I'll try to throw in a couple linux installs for people who literally only use their pcs to browse the internet.

Funny comments. Yet you need AV for Android and certainly for Macs! Every AntiVirus is good but does any of them have silent technology? You know where the software never asks you if you want to do this or that? Bitdefender does all the thinking with zero pop ups. Nobody else has this technology. Don't know about the past but its been # 1 for the most time, since January 2011. Check out av-test.org and click on tests. But thanks for the great comments. Free AV is never the complete package. I installed BitDefender, if you go to a page that is infected, it shows a full page with 2 buttons- says this page is infected. Do you want to still proceed- press one button, Do you want BitDefender to take you back to safety= press this button. Its crazy good. Deal is best software for unlimited machines for 85 bucks at Canada Computers. Check out the Mississauga store, they have stock . Its unbeatable, I got my copy. Enjoying it. Once the deal is gone, it is gone poof. Then all you have is free low grade antivirus!!
