View Full Version : Cancel my rogers contract?

Basically for the past 3 years I've had a pretty good plan
250 min
Unlimited eve/wknd
100 canadian long distance
unlimited text messaging (10 dollar credit)
Call ID (8 dollar credit)
=$20
Along with 6GB data ($30) and SAF ($7.95; was cheaper to keep SAF instead of making new contract with no SAF)
So I have upgraded and renewed my phone plan 13 days ago (1 more day to cancel) for a SGSIII, and everything was going to be fine, but then my call ID credit apparently expired, and my text credit will expire too! My main incentive to renew was because I had a good plan, but now it seems like i won't be having a good one anymore since I'm going to pay another $18 dollars.
I don't really know what to do, I've called and they won't do anything, so I'm considering maybe cancelling (also told them I was going to but they don't seem to care).
Is there any advice about going about this or getting a good plan somewhere else? Would greatly appreciate it (I have until tomorrow to cancel my contract). Thanks
EDIT:
It has come to my attention that rogers had a new plan
6Gig data
200 min
unlim canada my10
unlim messaging
evenings and weekends at 6
= $60, but going to have to get call ID which is another 8(?), and maybe theres some government fee onto of that...I save like 2 dollars...still very disappointed

Just call Rogers again and If they don't anything this time then just leave, Virgin/Koodo, Wind/Mobilicity. Lot's of options depending what you need and what not.
Basically losing those credits would mean you aren't getting any discount at all..

Yea, I'm thinking of calling again in an hour, also willing to see if theres any other suggestions. Just like to know all the options
also considering cancelling, and making a new contract with the new plan (instead of just changing it) mainly cause i had to pay 209.99 for my 16gig SGSIII...versus new customer price of 159.99 lol

Why did you have to pay $209.99? Didn't you just renew so you get the discounted price? If the price changed to $159.99 recently I would think they'll honor It..?

I don't see any reason why they cannot give you the $10 text credit and $8 CID credit. (there are restrictions on stacking credits on certain things etc but this case doesn't fall to that). So I think its just a matter of luck in getting someone who is willing to do this for you.
If they really cannot give those credits for some reason, you can try to get them to apply a $10 data discount or $10 MFD instead of the text or CID credit. Again, depends on your luck to get a rep who is willing.
As for your $209.99, I believe this is because the advertised $159.99 is after a $50 MIR which you send in for a $50 rebate to your Rogers bill (after 2 billing cycles). I don't think this is any different for a new customer, unless I'm missing some new promo.
If your end result is going for the 6GB superplan, then its time to switch carriers. It really is not worth it (at least without credits) if you have to add CID to it. After breaking it down, it's very similar to getting everything separate, assuming the 6GB data add-on is $30.

If the reps don't do anything, can't you return the phone and go back to month to month then renegotiate before signing again?

Yeah you can, Buyer's remorse period; Within 14 or 15 days and under 30 minutes of talk time total on the Phone Is when you can return It. Assuming you return the plan too because of the new contract/HUP you'll have to pick a month-month plan they have or something like that.

Ok, well I called retentions again (took a couple tries, not to mention every time i tried with my mobile, I go disconnected, so had to use landline. wonder if its them or my phone...)
Either way, I did a lot of talking and ended up having all my credits put back (for the duration of my contract).
So I'm still paying 20(voice)+30(6gig)+7.95(boooo!) = 57.95
I also tried inquiring about the 6gig super plan, but transfer the CID, but apparently they don't do that
however, I still feel that i could get a better plan...
And you are indeed correct about the 50 rebate, It just slipped my mind due to me being riled up lol

I don't know how much do you use from your 6GB and how fast is it? But if you can try mobilicity and it works for you. They have a $30 deal going on right now which include eveerything you have and some more at the expense of slow data and weak reception at some places. Then again, if it works whereever you go most of the time. You would be saving 27.95/month.

I ended up taking it. I could always change up the plan in the future, my main priority was getting the credits incase i don't end up changing. and yes I'm on LTE.
I end up using my 6gig when i need to. There have been numerous times when the 6 gigs have been handy (when i don't have home internet, or when i tether/hotspot)
