View Full Version : Have you ever had a paranormal experience?

I remember one day I was driving on an empty road in the middle of the night in Scarborough. Ahead of me, I saw an old lady standing at the bus stop. She was leaning out onto the road to check to see if the bus was coming. I couldn't make out her exact details but I definitely saw she was wearing a long dress and had a short, curly hairstyle (a very typical old lady look). At first I thought it was strange for an old lady to be out in the middle of the night. Then I considered offering her a ride because while the area wasn't too run down, it was still dangerous for her to be by herself. As I approached I must have changed the radio station or checked my mirrors...but when I got to the bus stop, she had vanished.
Afterwards, needless to say, the speed limit was a secondary concern.
Have you guys had any similar paranormal experiences?

Similar to what you experienced. Me and a friend were traveling down a one way dead end in the middle of no where. Saw a guy walking down the road. We reached the end about 30 secs later. And pulled a utuen. Didn't see the Guy at all coming back. There also was open fields all around so we woulda saw if he went into one.

OMG I love ghost stories! But I've never had one myself.
My BF's mother swears that at the old house they used to live at, every time she was alone in the house and the washing machine was on, "something" would flip up the top and stop it. She says she felt a mischievious aura to it (nothing spiteful.) She once put a heavy toy on top of the washing machine to try to ensure it wasn't some mechanical popping up or some trick of her memory, but she says that when she returned downstairs the toy looked like it had been neatly placed on the floor just next to the washer (not popped up and thrown across.) And of course, the lid was open again.

Scary
Sounds like the ghost lived in the washing machine, or it didn't like the noise.

In our basement there is a main hall and four rooms with doors coming off of it. One used to be a TV room and an other is the laundry. One night around 1 - 2 am I was watching some TV with my cat sleeping beside me and the door to the laundry, which was closed and latched, started rattling as if someone was trying to open it without turning the handle. The cat jumped off the couch and ran to the door and went into the hall. The door stopped rattling and the cat hissed at it...that really freaked me out. I opened the door and the air was hot and stale and there the window was not open. I proceeded to grab the cat, close the door, go into the TV room and close that door and turn the TV up nice and loud.

Nope. But the closest thing I've experienced that was 'paranormal' was this:

The old house that I use to live at was apparently haunted I was always told by my family friends (mainly the parents) that every time they slept over they had some sort of ghost/paranormal encounter, I never believed it until it happened to me. Long story short in front of my house are train tracks on my side it was just land the other side were companies so one day a van full of people were late to work and decided to drive across the train tracks, and got hit by the train spilt the van in half and killed everybody, so 7 people died in front of my house o.O. The night after my aunt had just passed away I was laying in bed and I felt something cold on my right ear and my hair was moving. It felt as if someone was playing with my hair or trying to tuck my hair behind my ear. I was soo freaked out that I turned onto my side and then I saw a lady in all white dress with red hair and a white face just standing in the middle of my room I hid under my blankets and forced myself to sleep after I saw that.
sorry not the best story teller :P

I have to wonder why "ghosts" wear anything. Is the clothing issued at death or what?
A male ghost would be a lot scarier if it could wave his man-tool in your face rather than just making doorknobs rattle.
But, I lived in a 145 year old house for 10 years where I know that at least 11 people died in the house (checking old town records) and zippo for the ghosties. Never heard or saw anything, my dogs never went insane for an unknown reason and my cat stared at the ceiling a lot, but all cats do that just to annoy humans.
The human imagination can be a wonderful or scary thing.

Have you ever wondered why you have these goose bumps, the temperature apparently drops many degrees in the room with out reason, or you smell something funny?
That could be a spirit (poltergeist) lurking around you.
I'm serious.

I had a relative whose dog used to growl and bark at nothing. Sometimes the dog would look up and bark and chase something in the air above him. One evening I was using the computer when the dog started growling. Then I heard a faint but distinct sound of a lady laughing. I quickly grabbed the dog and left the room.

A long time ago at a remote cottage that we went for a get away I couldnt sleep at night because I had too much redbull... Anyways it was around 2AM and I got up to drink some water and peeked outside of the window and I saw a woman/lady was walking on top of a wall and her tongue was out? Her hairs were open and her feet was pointing backwards..
I swear I saw this for a good 2 minutes before she disappeared.. I really wanted to go outside and find out wth was going on but I was just too scared... I couldnt even tell my friends because I know I would have been laughed at but I swear I saw her... :-s

I once was outside smoking a cig at my ex-gf's family's farm. I saw a bright light come from nowhere. The cows seemed spooked. I was scared. I went back indoors and locked everything down. I woke up the next morning with a knot on my head. Turned out it was a ghost of Jack Daniels beating my arse to the ground and making me hit my head on a deck railing. Needless to say that was the the last time I would drink almost a handle of Jack and a 12'er of beer in one day. ........ In reality, I do not believe in paranormal "things". I have been sleep deprived enough over the years to see and hear things that simply were not there.

I was in my living room around 1am while everyone else in the house was asleep. I was watching tv and from the kitchen I hear 'beep... beep-beep... beep' and then the microwave turned on by itself. The kitchen lights were still out and nobody was there. I look at the microwave and it had around 10 counting on the timer and there was nothing inside the microwave.
Of course we ended up replacing the microwave shortly afterwards.
Probably a mechanical malfunction (and dangerous one too), but it makes a good ghost story anyway.

I dunno if its a paranormal experience or the angle was timed right but last night around 10pm while driving up midland road in scarborough, I saw this very tall and skinny old man waiting by this sketchy bus stop. Anyone who drives down midland road at night knows that its super dark because of all the trees blocking the street lights. Anywho, he looked very pale/white and stood very still. I passed by on the right lane and he stared me down. I was like wth, so after I passed the bus stop, I checked my mirrors and he wasn't there. I dunno if it was because he was skinny enough to hid behind the bus poll or if it was a paranormal experience. Either way, I was a bit creeped out lol

I love ghost stories.
This happened to friend of a coworker of mine, now im not sure if this was real since i wasnt' there to witness myself but this is what i was told. Lets name the subject Bob. Bob was new to the country, he barely spoke any english so he mainly communicate to his peers by mother tongue. One summer night Bob, his cousin and his friends decided to play basketball at a recreational park where the court was nearby a graveyard. Everything seemed to go fine until they were calling it the quits since it was getting late and everyone was tired. Bob suddenly to shiver and twitch as if he was having a seizure, his cousin started to get worried but the shiver stopped. Out of no where, he decided to speak english to his cousin, not just any english but modern english like lotr and Shakespeare films. Everyone was shocked because they all knew bob didn't know english so they all started to get worried especially when his personality started to become more aggressive than usual, he also decided to start a fight with the biggest guy(220lbs) in the group where he threw punches and even pick him up off the group. At this point everyone started to freak out, his cousin took bob him and explained to his parents of what just happened. The next day bobs parents hired a person who perform a spiritual blessing where they made bob drink his holy type water from a cup, he didn't explain what was inside the cup but if he doesn't he wouldn't be able to see light again.
sounds kind of BS, but the way of how my friend was telling me made it seem true.

In March, a family member who we didn't see for years because she lived in a different part of the world died.
Weeks after, a car accident occurred that totaled a vehicle (and if the car was hit just a tiny bit differently, it would have been a side impact and the car had no side impact air bags), a healthy dog went through a freak accident that resulted it in being put to sleep and a family member started to have health problems.
My parents thought that the person who died caused these "accidents" in the hopes of taking a family member, who she missed a lot, with her to the afterlife.

Here's another one.
Same BF's mother had an aunt who worked at a Hudson's Bay store back in the 70's. Anyway, she had to move out to a not-so-large city by herself, away from her family for the job, so she got a small apartment to rent.
At first she didn't notice, but later on it seemed as if things kept being misplaced in weird places. For example, she usually left a novel she'd read on the coffee table but she might find it on the top shelf of her closet (yeah, wth?) Or, she liked to leave her house slippers by the door to change into when she came home, but she might find one on top of the toilet paper roll-y thing in the washroom. Just incidents that didn't make any sense.
Then at some point, her cutlery seemed to go missing...
...and she'd start finding them in weird places (e.g. under her pillow, in her closet under a layer of clothes, etc.)...but the prongs were fanned out to the side (for instance, two prongs bent to the left, two prongs bent to the right.)
This really freaked her out, and she wasn't one to be superstitious, but anyway she went to a local pastor and told him about it, and showed him one of the forks. He concurred that even most men wouldn't be able to bend the prongs out like that, let alone a woman, so she couldn't just have been sleepwalking or something like that. So he did more research into the apartment building's history, and he found out that the land that the apartment building was on had once been a Native burial ground.
She asked him then to come to her apartment and do like a holy blessing/exorcism-type ritual because she didn't like the thought of any spirits scaring her away (she's very stubborn! and brave because I woulda gotten the hell out of there. What if one day I'd found one of the forks inside me???) Anyway, apparently the strange occurrences stopped for a little while, but they came back at a greater frequency afterwards. That's when she moved out. And she never experienced anything like that again so she's not just cuckoo.

Mine was similar. I saw a female in a white dress while driving late at night on what was then a developing road and a few minutes later i saw her again a few kilometers down the road. Being a logical and Spock-like person, I clearly remember saying to myself that it was impossible and continued driving on, not that I had a choice....

I never really had an experience but my good friend had the scare of his life a few months ago while driving home late one night.
It was around 3am and he had just finish his shift at the club. He was alone on the road travelling north on Yonge st. & Davis when he turned his head around only to see an extremely pale women in his back seat!
He froze with fear and dare not look back so instead turned on his interior lights and raced forward to catch up to a nearby taxi. When he did look back she was gone.
If that was me I probably freak out and jump out of the car.

okay this is a ghostly encounter from a taxi driver:
someone told me their taxi driver friend who was working during the graveyard shift. The taximan picked up this lady from the hospital. She was Asian, had long hair, typical asian girl on the street that lookd like Sadako. Sadako asked to go to the grave yard, which is kinda effed up, but he agreed. Anyways, en route to the destination, taxi driver lookd at the car mirror and the girl was gone!! Most ghost encounters would end here....but not this one.
So the Taximan was like "Wahhhlalalala (hes jewish i thnk) where is da girl" he drove triple the speed limit to GTFO. And than, he lookd at the mirror again, Sadako appears AGAIN!! This time her face is full of blood. HOLYYY, the taximan is now driving at 250 km/h scared shitless. He turns his head back, and the girl is gone again. About now hes at the grave yard....and the girl appears from the foot well, got off and told him "sorry i had a nose bleed in the back, had to bend down to stop the bleeding, thank you for getting here so quickly :3"

So many stories to tell. When I was in high school, I went over to my friend's house for the first time. I rang the doorbell and her mother answered the door. When she opened the door, a golden retriever came out and stood next to her. She opened the storm door to let me in and the dog ran around the corner. That's when my friend came around that same corner with a black sheep dog trailing behind her. I was puzzled, because she told me she only had one dog, so I asked her if she was dog sitting for someone. She said no, the only dog in the house was him and she pointed to the black sheep dog. I told her I had saw a golden retriever earlier. That's when she got a funny look on her face. She said that she had a golden retriever, but it died years ago. She took me to her room and sure enough, there were pictures of the dog all around and it was the same dog I saw. She said I wasn't the first one to see her and that the sheep dog barks at the chair that the golden retriever use to sit in all the time. :|
This next one is scary. I was driving my friend home one night after studying at the library. There's a roadway that leads to her front door and in front of it is a flat parking lot. As I was pulling into the circle driveway of the entrance, a guy was crossing the way, so I had to stop my car. He was wearing a dark hoodie and jeans. He crossed from the front passenger side to the driver side of my car and walked along the side of my car. When he passed my window, I got a good look at his face. It was all ashen and his eyes were sunken in and he had crazy dark circles. His eyes looked glassy and spaced out and he had no hair. I was a little freaked out and I turned to my friend and said, "did you see that guy? He looked like he was an addict or something!" That's when she asked me, "what guy?" Turns out she never saw him and was wondering why I was stopping the car. I was convinced he was real, so I actually got out of the car to look. It was a flat parking lot, so I could see all around. There was no sign of the guy at all. I was so freaked out, I stayed with my friend that night instead of driving home.

That second story you said is weird... since it's a first-hand account could you really describe the guy more? How close were you to him? Was he moving normally? Any audible sound or was the ghost silent? Ghosts can only be seen by everyone, and not selectively be seen by only certain individuals. If that's the case then it's just your mind playing tricks on you.

A year ago i went to Niagara falls and I had my mini USB cable for my phone to tether with my laptop. I had my laptop bag and I thought I lost the cable even though I know I plugged it into my laptop and never took it out. I check every compartment of my bag and it was nowhere to be found. So I ordered a new identical cable on eBay half a year later and when I received it I looked to the floor and a mini USB cable dropped out of my laptop bag. I thought to myself "great I have two cables now" but then my samsung earbuds that I definitely known I placed on my table dissapeared. Nobody was home so there was nobody to blame. I was never able to find it. And even though I left my mini USB cable on my desk, one of them were gone after I tried looking for my Samsung earbuds.
Still haven't been able to find those two items till this day. It happened just about 6 months ago.

About 12 years ago my wife and I rented an apartment and 2 strange things happened. One morning we woke up to find a full ash tray in the middle of the living room floor. There was no mess, no ash anyway but in the ashtray. It was like someone picked it up from the coffee table and placed it in the middle of the living room floor. Another time we were looking for my wifes slippers. We looked everywhere but could not find them. After giving up my wife went into the bedroom a little while later to find both her slippers sitting right in the middle of our bed. We make our bed so it wasnt like the slippers were lost in the sheets. We lived in that apartment for 2 years these were the only things that happened.
Another story is that my Unlces Mom used to live in the old school house by sportsworld in kitchener, the school house is now Borealis. She used to say that the old school had friendly ghosts and she would talk to them.

My sister and her boyfriend once came upon something like this one night walking home late from a house party.
Her boyfriend pulled out his lighter and lit it and the woman fled/disappeared.??
I've seen a ball of fire travelling around at 15 feet off the ground at night on more than one occasion.
It was a red ball and much different from fireworks, as it actually moved horizontally and over long periods.

Rumors among friends and family is that my grandmother, who was quite active in black magic, was one.
My only other account was being in bed paralyzed, while there was a bright light outside my window, and a whirring UFO sound.
My brother who is a scientist, explained it as sleep paralysis, as I used to be an avid sleep walker and had terrible nightmares as a child.
I believe this was the case.
There are many unseen things unexplainable by science. People who give accounts are ridiculed for it.

I'll say it again. The human mind and brain and imagination can do wonderful and scary things.
Your senses are not always accurate and can be fooled quite easily.
This thead is proof if all is true.

I'm a die-hard skeptic. I don't believe in ghosts or any "paranormal" things at all. That said, I have a story.
This happened about 10 years back. It was late, I was in the basement on my computer, looking up ghost photos on ghoststudy.com. My parents were already asleep, and I had all the lights off so the computer monitor was the only thing lighting up the room. I was looking at the various "ghost" photographs and thinking how fake they all were. Even back then, I didn't believe in those things. I was also reading some of the idiotic comments where people were buying the obviously-fake crap, congratulating the picture-takers on their "great" captures, talking about what motivates ghosts, "energies" associated with certain locations and other paranormal tripe. I got fed up to the point where I loudly announced to the empty room. "This is all *****. If any ghosts exist, anywhere, give me a sign right now."
(I should point out at this stage that I am not making this story up, I swear.)
Just as I finished saying that, my computer played the "shutdown" sound, Windows went through the normal shutdown process, and the computer and monitor turned off, leaving me in the darkness.
Yeah, I was freaked out. I turned the computer back on (as well as the lights in the room!) and it seemed to be working fine. I thought that maybe I pushed the "power" button on my keyboard, but I quickly concluded that was impossible given where my hands were at the time. I finally decided it had to be some short-circuit somewhere, maybe in the keyboard or in the computer itself that caused it. But even then, the coincidence that it happened just as I finished speaking my challenge really rattled me. I had trouble going to sleep, and I actually acknowledged, for a brief time, that maybe ghosts really do exist.
It was the next day that I finally put all the pieces together. The previous morning I had been downloading a file with a P2P app. I was going to leave for church with my parents, and then go shopping. I wanted the file, but I didn't like the idea of leaving the computer using up power, so I set the app the "Shut down computer when transfers finish". I expected it would only take a few minutes. You can probably tell where this is going. The transfer for some reason slowed to a crawl, and it didn't finish until late that night, by which point I had been at and away from my computer several times and had completely forgotten about the download. I confirmed the file modified date, and sure enough, the download had been going on all the way until the night, when it finished and the app dutifully turned off my computer as I had asked it to.
So, in the end, there turned out to be a perfectly reasonable explanation. Still, the sheer coincidence that had to occur so that this happened right as I made that challenge - it can make you think, no? :)
I haven't made the same challenge since then. Maybe I should try again tonight. ;)

Something truly freaky just happened to me just as I was saying a few post back that I never truly experienced anything before. Now I wish I never did :(
Without sounding like a crazy person here goes. I was asleep alone in bed Wednesday night, the wife was sleeping with the little one in the other room as she often does that. I dozed off and was in deep sleep when something awoke me, but it wasn't like a sound of anything. Strangely enough I found my hands in front of me pushing away something behind my sheets! It was a definite shape as it moved wildly! Can't explain it only that it was small but moving. I freaked out, screaming and jumping out of bed just as my wife enter the room to see what was going on.
The shape was gone. I'm eyes are wild, my skin is damp and my arms feel weak. The experience has left me bewildered, but I refuse to be frightened whatever it is.
True story, please don't mock me.

While I enjoy reading these kind of threads, I don't believe in any of it, like Mercury told earlier.
The only strange stuff I witnessed in my life were UFO-related. I don't have a particular story to tell but let's just say that I see regularly strange shapes in the sky (small shapes, like stars with different colors) with very erroneous or unusual movement patterns. When you see a shape move from left to right then suddenly bursts with light and vanishes leaving a trail behind it, you start to believe that you are not alone.

Not much of a "paranormal" experience, but one time when I was uploading photos I've just taken of the Fall leaves, Picasa's facial recognition software picked up a "face" in one of the leaf piles. Pretty freaky at first, but it's just a false-positive of the search algorithm.

EVP's really interest me right now. Not much of a believer in ghosts/demons/etc... but I've often wondered how people are apparently able to pick up "voices from the dead". Probably 99% of those EVP's can be explained as background noise, mechanical wine (gears) or hoaxes, but it's the 1% left that's really interesting.

Easily explainable. Google "Pareidolia". I believe it was James Randi who got a bunch of EVP "experts" together and played the same LP backwards to see what they came up with. All of them reported different things.
People can hear whatever they want in random noise. It's only the gullible that want it to mean aomething.

My best bud, he is as honest as they come, never in my 20 years of friendship have I known him to lie or exaggerate, him and one of his buddies were at old finch smoking weed. They both saw a lady walk by their car, they turn around and she is gone.
My own experience, back in my teens maybe once or twice a year I would get sleep paralysis, I remember one time I managed to open my eyes a little and saw a pair of legs on my chest. Only years later did I know about the old hag folklore, so before that I had no concept of the old hag to even imagine it. I was not freaked out or anything, I never broke the paralysis, I just went back to sleep.

in the 90's I used to wake up in the middle of the night with the feeling of someone standing behind me. At that time my bed was positioned at the corner of the room and I would sleep facing the wall. During those occassionsI would feel something poking my back, urging me to turn around, but was too afraid. Then all of a sudden it stopped.

Ok, so this happened few years ago, right around the time the English version of "The Ring" came out. I have already watched the Japanese one and the English one a few times, they don't bother me at all.
So one night, I was up in a spare bedroom reading (this is our "2nd family room" of sort, we got a standing light/lamp, a queen size sofa bed, a TV (no boxes back then), and a DVD player all on a TV unit). So I was there reading, I can't remember what book, but if I had to guess, I would say it was Da Vinci Code (I don't read many books, and I didn't read it when it first came out). So I was there reading, family went to sleep already, and I was sitting across the sofa (back to the light, back leaning on one side of the sofa and leg laid across the sofa, TV was to my left at this position). So then suddenly, the TV turned on by itself and it was ALL STATIC. At first, I was calm... starting looking for the remote, but can't find it at first. Then I reached in the gaps of the sofa (between the cushions and seats) and there it was. Turn out, my sister was watching DVD before and the TV was left in "Video 1" and I somehow turned the TV on because the seat cushion was pushing against the remote. Anyhow, I quickly turned everything off, and ran back to my room to sleep.
It wasn't paranormal but it was sure freakly at that time.

I'm not joking.
