connecting 5.1 surround sound to tv

got a samsung out of the box 5.1 with blueray player and a LG smart tv. If I want sound to come out of the 5.1 when watching tv the only way is to use a optical audio cable correct? or are there better solutions?

Tell us what model is your 5.1 samsung and maybe we can find a better way. But I doubt. These systems are made usually only to play for their BD player and lack I/O connectivity. It may not even have an optical in.

+1. Even if the 5.1 system does have a optical/coaxial in, the tv would need to have a corresponding optical/coaxial output that can send 5.1 audio to your receiver.
