Hi,
I'm looking to lower my home phone bill - drastically.

I want to keep my current number, so I'm finding that Freephoneline.ca or Ooma is my best bet.
I've got 2 phone numbers that I need to keep. One needs to work as usual (use existing handsets throughout the house to receive calls and call out on), but the other just needs to forward to my cell phone.
And its got to work with my wifi internet service (5mbs up and 5mbs down connected to a lynksys router)

Is that doable with Freephoneline or Ooma? or???

I've been trying to read through the existing RFD threads, but they go on forever and I'm not too techie and I'm having trouble sorting through the information.
It seems that FPL is the better price (cheaper to set up and cheaper monthly) - but I don't know if it can handle the second phone line (even as just a forwarder).
Or is there another service where I can use my existing number and forward it to my cell that would bypass my home altogether???

Any tips and experiences you can share would be appreciated.
Thank you!

FPL does forwarding easily, and you can use even the free account for that (you still need to pay if you must port an existing number, though)

With FLP, you can test the forwarding at no cost. First, sign up for a free number. When this is done, you can set up your online account where you can then tweak your settings. Simply set up the 'Follow me' setting to pass the calls on to your cell phone. Try it out to see how it works. If you are happy, then call customer service and arrange to port your number over (for a cost of $25).

For the home phone, there are 2 options with FLP:

1- You can purchase their Homephone setup for $49 and then pay $4.95 per month.

2- You can pay $50 for the config file and buy your own ATA box into which you plug your own phone. No monthly costs with this option. (I use this and it works wonderfully. I now have 2 friends who have ditched Bell and Rogers to go with this setup to.) It will require some technical knowledge to set up the ATA box, but I can be of assistance if you pm me.

Is there any delay in reception? I know when I used Dell Voice on my S2, there was a second or so delay.

FPL or iTalkBB or Magic Jack!

Are these all VOIP? I know FPL and Magic Jack is.

I use Ooma and like it a lot. In order to keep two numbers active plus get call forwording you need to subscribe to the premier service so with tax you're looking at about $14 a month total.

Have a look at Voip.ms. I use them for my business and toll free number and my costs dropped from $50 per month to about $8 per month.
