Not sure if this is the right section of forum but I figure many of us buying computer parts probably got RMA before so here goes my question:
I recently had a warranty replacement from a shop in the US delivered here.
I didn't pay anything because it is a warranty transaction (already got dinged the first time I received the unit). However, the shop put down $100 in value for the sake of insurance and stupid border people is charging me $20 for GST+handling.
Do you guys know any outlet where I can dispute this charge??

You have to speak with the shop. They are supposed to fill out the RMA/warranty paperwork.

Refuse the package and tell the shop to fix the issue. Worked for me last time.

The value shouldn't matter too much as long as the packing slip indicates its a warranty/replacement item. DId the shop indicate its warranty/RMA on the decalaration paper work?

Sounds like you'll have to get the warranty shop to issue a new invoice or provide you with documentation to let CBSA know that it was a no-charge warranty replacement.

There is a form you can fill out and you send it to CBSA with documentation regarding the warrantee replacement and they will refund the duty + HST.
It is just a pain to do. That is why, I like to buy from vendors whom have Canadian warrantee centers (ie. OCZ, MSI, Antec to name a few.)
I got charged $100 for a battery once because the idiot shipper wrote $9.60 like $960. >:(

hahaha that really sucks. I know! I have dealt w/ MSI back in the days. They tell you to ship it to their Cdn office and the Cdn office will take care of the border stuff.......oh well.......sent the letter with proof to CBSA, hope all goes well!

update: btw guys, to my surprise, our lovely revenue agency has sent me a cheque refunding the charge :) so to all those who had similar issues, just fill out the refund form with supporting documents and you will get your money back =D

what was the turn around time for the refund? similar thing happened to me but it was not warranty, it was a core charge.
I ordered a transmission from california, for 1000 bucks, but there was a 300 dollar core charge to return the old transmission but still the border guys taxed me on the whole 1000.
