View Full Version : Inspection of homeowner natural gas line work?

I just finished some home renovations that included some gas line work in the basement:

* Run gas line to BBQ on deck
* Run gas line to dryer area in basement (valve and cap, future use)
* Run gas line to area in basement under stove in kitchen (valve and cap, future use)

I have a healthy respect about the risks and responsibilities in completing my own natural gas work. Part of being responsible is to have the work inspected by a SME even if confident about my work. I have no irrational phobia about natural gas.

The service to the existing appliances (furnace and hot water heater) is unchanged but the supply line has new branching. All work passed the soap test and a 1hr meter test and "should" otherwise be compliant. No appliances are yet hooked up to the new piping.

To have the work inspected I called Enbridge, but they say they don't handle that sort of inspection anymore and I need to talk to an independent contractor/inspector.

Previous threads indicate that very few licensed folk would be willing to sign off on homeowner work. Has that changed? Does anyone have any recommendation for an inspector in the GTA who is pragmatic about this? Should I wait until I am having the appliances installed (later this year probably) at which point I intend to have a licensed installer do things anyway?
