My Passat is making this annoying and loud sound when it is running idle and accelerating. It sounds like a tractor or when kids put a card in their bicycle tire. I notice this sound with my neighbors Jetta and I also saw a brand new Jetta with the same noise. Why is it doing this and how can I fix it?
Thanks!

Without proper information about your car it will make it that much harder to help you.
- Year of car?
- kms on car?
- Which engine? 2.0L? TDI? etc
- did this recently start happening? If so when & after what
- Have you checked your oil? if not go do it
- Have you opened the hood and looked for any obvious problems?
- have you tried to pin point the sound when looking under the hood? What area is it coming from?
If you dont provide info for us to help you then there is not much point in posting your question.

Not sure what OP is talking about unless he records it and play it here. Might be just a diesel engine sound = sound like tractor

yea the old Diesel engines yes they were on the loud sound but the new ones are actually low noise.
& yes a video would help a lot actually.

2001 Passat GLX V6 with 215km. I have owned since June 2011 and always used 91 gasoline. It has been making that noise for about 4 months now. Oil was just changed last week. Everything hood looks fine to me but I am not a mechanic.

Did you happen to mention it to your mechanic when you went for the oil change? (unless you went to one of those quick lube places) The sound could be many things, it may be a lifter or some other part internally or it could be something else like a belt or pulley or something like that. If you can post a video that would be great.
