Hey ya'll..
So I got a pretty good deal on a 2003 350z .. .has around 60,000km on it.. for 11k...
i've had a 2004 G35 that had tranny problems at around 150,000km and apparently these two cars are famous for the same issues..
being low km and me only needing a weekend car, ya'll think it's a good deal?? if not, what else would you recommend????
Thanks!!!

No cargo space! Well, you know what I mean. It's the only reason the 350z/370 isn't on my narrowed down list :P
Actively looking for a weekend car for the past year, haven't found anything yet. Besides RX8's, but I'm looking for specific colours. I swear 80% of them are red.

Buy a more expensive car. One that is out of the price range of douches and wannabe ballers.
Every time I see a car weaving in and out of traffic recklessly it's almost always without fail a 350Z or G35 driven by a guy with a backwards baseball cap and huge Prada sunglasses.

Or Fendi or Gucci sunglasses. The driver usually looks like this more or less.

A G35 is basically a 350z underneath. Do you really want to buy the same car twice?
My opinion:
a) That is a suspiciously good deal. I'd go over that car with a fine-toothed comb and someone who knows cars better than me before I'd drop any money on it.
b) Why are you buying anything with a V6? You're just going to sit in traffic or drive at or slightly over the speed limit, so what's the point? Find an S2000, drive an MX-5, or grab something like a C-class if you just want the badge. A modern 4-cyl can give you all the excitement you need.

Quoted for great truth.
Anyways agree with Piro that life is too short to own the same car twice.
Get something different and less vulgar / douchey. S2000 is a good suggestion.

If it is an automatic, I wouldn't bother - but that is my preference.

Don't buy it OP. Get an RX-8, a Series II if you've got the budget, and call it a day. It is an amazing car.

A buddy of mine owned this car briefly. It's very mediocre for what it is supposed to be. Go for at least the 370z. Personally I would prefer the extra room and would go with the G37.

That is actually a pretty good price given the mileage - I would definitely do a carfax/carproof and take it to a mechanic if you're serious. It's going to be a relatively similar drive to your G35 though - just a bit lighter and more nimble.
And considering that a 370z or a G37 would be about double the price, it's unlikely that the OP is going to be cross shopping cars that are twice the price.

The engine in the 350z revs way too slow. Gears are too wide. Need better fly wheel. Too much displacement.

LMAO!!! thanks for aaaallll the replies!
In reference to buying the same car twice, I loved my G! ...the transmission gave up right coincidentally when I moved to the downtown core. I then bought a ZipCar membership and ended up spending 450 the first month... So basically for the next 2 years before I go back to school, i've budgeted 11k to get the nicest car possible.
I did think about the rx-8 but something about the look that turns me off.
Anyway the only other car I was considering was a 08 Altima Coupe 2.5 or 3.5...
If anyone has any last words before I pull the trigger on this Z this weekend, let me know!!!!

I do plan on taking it to a mechanic and having a diagnostic run... already did the carfax. looks good. :S

Do it! I have an 03 and haven't had any issues. Fun car to drive. Do you plan on tracking it?
My only qualm is that it isn't a convertible (though the z convertibles are ugly)
Edit: not sure why everyone is telling OP to buy 370...clearly his budget doesn't allow for it. 11k for a 350z is a great price. Seems like a no brainer to me...

Just my 2 cents:
I was considering buying a new 370z. Test drove it and really liked it. However it felt really heavy to me.
Look into the FRS. Its a little more then your budget but its a great little car (4cyl too).

Op should get the last of the V6 engine. The next gen Z (MY2015) will be a turbo charged 4 cyl.

I swear you or someone else said this before like bwige and corrola neing synonymous with each other.
I like the z. but for 11k and that year you need to ask yourself if this is fro katrina flood.
I rhink the only sure fire way of knowing it isnt is a +2006 car possibly the updated HR? Enginr.

Here are my last words, you owe it to yourself to drive an RX-8 before you pull the trigger. Any hang ups about the looks will be forgotten after a test drive. You've had a G35 already which is nearly the same car as a Z. The ride in the 350Z is brutal. You can get a newer RX-8 with about the same mileage/price and the engine still under warranty for 2005 models +. Whatever you decide to buy make sure you test drive it first and get it inspected.

Why RX-8? It's slow and chugs gas as a V8. Reliability is not great on those either. I don't mind the looks, but the engine is weak for a car of that class.
+1 on test drive

lol @ RX8, theyre terrible....you'd be lucky to get 150k km out of those engines. If you get a Mazda you might as well get a POS Hyundai

If you can tolerate the first 4-5 seconds of the line the car is very quick after that and can keep up with anything in it's class on a racetrack including a 350Z with 50 more HP and 100lb-ft of torque. The car is about handling and balance and not all out straight line performance. The spec sheet doesn't do this car justice. Gas consumption isn't that much better on a 350Z

Yes, keep talking out of your arse. Obviously you've never driven one. If you place zero emphasis on driver experience then yeah get a Hyundai. Engine has a 160K warranty. If your engine goes @ 150K you get a free replacement and your good to go for another 100K. VQ engines aren't exactly known for reliability either.
