Ordered a book via amazon uk. I have done this before and never had to pay $10 brokerage fee to ups !

Usually amazon includes everything in the price ?

What has happened.

As well the driver refused to come up to 2nd floor to deliver my package. I had a before noon delivery today and the driver left the parcel at apt building door. I saw him across the street in his truck waiting for me to get the item which was worth $450US.

Shrug to UPS! And to amazon. I've had enough from both of these companies!

Have you contacted Amazon before ranting on the internet?

I realized what I did wrong. There is a trick with the adress so that Canada Post delivers amazon items. Canada post doesn't charge brokerage fees. customs of course varies from item to item and whether customs decides to charge us. I just moved and when I ordered I didn't use the proper address.

?? You need to contact Amazon.co.uk, their policy is if duties and brokerage is more than what they collected you will not be charged the additional amount. Unless you purchased it in the market place, in which case Amazon has nothing to do with it.

What if the actual Import Fees are more than the Import Fees Deposit I was charged?

For items sold by Amazon EU Sarl, you will not be charged any additional fees if the actual Import Fees exceed the Import Fees Deposit we estimated. For items sold by Merchants, please check the applicable Merchant's policies.

OP says $10 and the cost of the item was $450, if he just contacts Amazon they will probably sort it out as per their policy. There had to have been a mistake somewhere along the line. Not sure why he is now talking about CP?

$10 Is nothing that's valued at $450 but I do understand that this should have been covered already right?
Not that hard to contact Amazon saying you got dinged $10 when you shouldn't have!

Yeah. $10 would be about right for the bond fee, but since UPS should not have been advancing any funds since they were already paid for to Amazon it shouldn't have been charged. If it was standard shipping UPS brokerage would have been ~$60, and then he could say he was screwed, $10 though is a small mistake which once he gets moving on speaking to the right people rather than posting on a forum should be resolved quickly.

Ooops did I say the item was $450? If so that was incorrect-my apologies. I bought a book valued at approx $28cdn. thats including shipping etc.

I was charged $12.59 by UPS for brokerage fee and taxes.

Sorry for the confusion. There were two deliveries today lol, the $450 mentioned was shipped from Canada. The two aren't related other than UPS delivered both.

Not to get into a cat fight but if you don't have anything meaningful and related to my post-better you dont post at all.

You will realize my post had a question.

Which has been answered. Contact Amazon to get your issue resolved. Next time, try contacting them first before ranting.

Usually Amazon provides an excellent after sale customer support. If you talk to them, it will get sorted out. Plus if there are enough complaints against a particular shipping company, they might even stop dealing with them.

There is a trick with the adress so that Canada Post delivers amazon items. and Canada post doesn't charge brokerage fees.

Can you tell us what this 'trick' is?

Canada Post does charge brokerage fees ($8.50), but only if there has been duty applied to it by customs.

Sure they do. They just call it a handling fee, and it's $8.50.

*edit - Hugh Jass beat me to it ;)

I learned my lesson after I was hit with $70 in fees for a $40 item with UPS..The same happened with fedex. Never use Fedex/UPS cross border unless its "express" and you won't be charged any customs/brokerage fees. I always make sure and request that they use the national mail service for that country, express, standard or whatever.

just for you know, one doesn't need to use ups or FedEx as their broker, you can clear it yourself at a cbsa office. It's not convienent but it does save money if you live near one of their offices.
For items shipped via Canada post, you need to use them as the broker if the item is valued less than 1600.00
