I'm looking to buy a mid-size tv between 32 and 42inch to hook up to my computer via HDMI cable mainly for streaming movies (mostly netflix) and gaming a bit.
I do not need any extra features like integrated WiFi or usb ports. A huge monitor would be perfect but for some reasons big monitors costs more than a tv.

I know my computer can run games well in 1080p my pc screen is already 1920x1080.

My budget is around 500$ I can go up to 700$ but I would like to keep it lower.

I've been told plasma's weren't the best for HTPCs

Currently the best deal I found was a 42" panasonic 42U5 (http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/panasonic-panasonic-viera-42-1080p-60hz-lcd-hdtv-tcl42u5-tcl42u5/10198947.aspx?path=80307c1c100844ff7b9aafa96f0c89a 4en02)

I am not certain about all the details concerning a tv hooked up to a pc, Ive been told getting over 60hz gives a lot of ghosting and that a 720p tv will most probably give me a stretched image or black bars.

Thanks for the help

You can also see this. It's looking like a great TV and it has 120hz. the only bad is that it's not available for online purchase and you must go to the shop to buy it. http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/lg-electronics-lg-42-1080p-120hz-lcd-hdtv-42lk520-42lk520/10166916.aspx?path=f558c968f911532f39d4e051b3735a7 0en02

If you are looking at the 42U5, try Best Buy. They are $499 with 3 X RZ points ($19). They just finished an offer there yesterday that included a fast 8 GB class 10 SD card for free with this TV also. You could also try to get them to honour their HDTV In Stock Guarantee too. If you have a BB store nearby that is out of stock of this TV. That is worth another $50 discount and free delivery, if you can get it. YMMV. I have a thread on these offers on this TV from last week, if you need more info.

The LG 42LK520 gets pretty good comments and most likely has a S-IPS panel, which is good in this price range. At $499 that is also a good choice.

Your seating distance is the important factor if you are considering a 720P plasma. For desktop use, probably not a good idea, if you are sitting 6-12 feet from the screen, a larger 50" 720P model might be a worthwhile tradeoff at $499 also. Those extra 8" will make a big difference. Room lighting is also important too though. Most entry level plasmas are pretty reflective and could be a problem in bright rooms with uncontrollable light sources.
