So ive made a deal to purchase a new car from a dealer, and was waiting for it to get prepared and ready for delivery. I think I got a really great deal, as talking to other dealers, no one was willing to offer me anything close to the price I got.
The car was supposed to come tomorrow, and I get a call from the sales guy saying the paint has a problem, tree sap has baked in and is eating through the paint. So gave me 2 options, just forget the deal or see if the dealer will fork out the money to repaint.
Do you think the dealer is jerking me around, and has another buyer? Or would this really be a problem with a new car, and if so would you get the repainted one?
I think im being jerked around for a buyer paying more. BTW im in calgary
Thanks

sounds like the dealer has a change of heart of selling to you. A professional detailer can get the tree sap out. btw, you got to ask the question ... why would the dealer park their brand new cars in a lot with trees hovering over them ?

It does happen from time to time, usually happens during transport. The longer you leave sap on the car, the more damage it does. It is even worse when some cars sit on the lot for a long time and aren't properly cleaned until it gets sold. At that point it might be too late. I am glad they called you and told you about it instead of passing it off and letting you find out later. I would go see how bad it is and make a judgement call for yourself and see if you still want it.

Thanks for the responses, the car did come through transport from a dealer in another city, and then if being delivered to me through an edmonton dealer, so its a bit of a pain to go down there and check it out.
My thoughts are they have someone else whos willing to pay more, I got the car for 3% above wholesale using CCC. The car arrived in Edmonton on Monday, and I got a call yesterday from the dealer with this. So they had the car almost a full week before letting me know about the problem which seems odd to me.

Ask to see the damage and go from there.
Maybe they would be nice enough to take a picture for you?
Is tree sap really that danagerous to paint (compared to say bird droppings, road scum/dirt)?

Rubbing alcohol works decently if you use the 91% concentration, but Methyl Hydrate works the best, get it from any auto stores, it's sold as "gas line antifreeze". WD40 also works.

Ive talked to a couple of people that work at dealerships and all say there is no way the dealer keeps the car in that kind of condition. Even through transport. They're telling me the sales guy wants to sell it to someone else

I ran into the same problem. The car was a CPO at Volkswagen that came in as a off-lease the same day. They promised a detail and to fix a few things, as well as put the car through CPO inspection. Long story short they delayed delivery by 4 days. I raised hell with the manager and got a set of monster mats free.
Dealers will tell u what u want to hear just so you can make the deal. What happens afterword is up to them and how lazy they are.

Well you could always go to the other dealer and pay more.. providing they have it in stock.
1) go and see it.. confirm that it is what they say, before assuming that you may have gotten 'too good' of a deal and the dealership is selling to someone else.
2) if it is damaged.. walk away.
