Call the carrier, or use gevey.

Replacing the mobo would certainly not work unless it resulted in using an IMEI that was in Apple's whitelist.

As desidealer49 said, carrier or gevey. infamouskid says he can have your IMEI into Apple's whitelist, but I don't know the cost. Maybe PM him.

Just went back into the older thread. Apparently $50-$125

actually that was the case for a long time.
now that is not the case. ANY baseband ANY firmware version be unlocked SAFELY and Remotely the proper way and PERMANENTLY.
these requests believe it or not are done directly with apple. just like how tmobile has their unlocking dept. apple has one now too.
unlockers like myself can now unlock any iphone directly through itunes. i just sold one here on rfd the other day.
it takes 1 to 5 days for the unlock request to apple. we let you know when that request is complete.
at that point you would backup your phone then either upgrade or restore your phone VIA ITUNES and it unlocks after syncing with the apple master server.
not many people know about this but the service can cost as low as 50.00 to 125.00 depending on carrier.
also if your phone is out of warranty or not in contract the service is done faster. sometimes as fast as 15 minutes.
if your phone is in warranty or on contract it can take as long as 1 to 5 days and in rare cases as long as 10 days. but so far only 3 have taken that long.
if anyone has any questions or wants more info just pm me as this is kind of a touchy topic on rfd.
this is why your seeing dealers posting ads to buy ANY iphones on kijiji and craigslist for 375.00 a pop. cuz they can eat the unlock cost then resell around 600 -675 as factory unlocked or oem code unlocked.

Not bad at all, especially at the lowend, given that is the same that the carrier would charge. I recall that when some Europeans first gained access to the Apple IMEI database and were unlocking last year, the prices were around $175 USD. That loophole was closed so I am not sure what the current exploit is.

gevey or imei unlock via apple server is the only only.
