Hi Guy,
Need your advice. We are looking in to leasing a New Prius 2012 for 48 mth but we still have 10 months remaining on our 2010 Matrix Lease.
Interest are really low (1.9% for 48/mth) and we can even put it lower (0.4%) with security deposit of $5500.
All we wanted is tinted on the window and the dealer will only give it to us provided we take the ECP for $1139. Giving us free oil change until 96 000 km and additional warranty for the 4th year...etc .he dealer doesnt want to budge as he give us no penalties of our old lease...worth $14000
My question is can we negiocate the price of a ECP?? Do you think we should take a warranty for this car as it has lots of electronic components??
Because I really don't believe in extented Warranties especially since we do low mileage and we'll be only leasing less than 4 years as we tend to trade in our car before the lease end to avoid an repairs...
Any advice is appreciated :)

The Pruis is a great car. That being said there are electronics components that could go wrong but your are covered for 3 years on these. If you say that you normally keep your lease for 3 years then you should not get the ECP. This will be throwing money out the window when you usually have bumper to bumper for 3 years or 60K. I am not sure of how much you drive so cannot comment on the mileage portion. Nevertheless if you still think you need the ECP, then you should buy it from a dealer in the US. Head on to the greenhybrid forum (link below) - lots of information on ECP there. Those ECP's are valid in North America. Just see your dealers jaw drop when you tell him that you are getting the ECP from down south for less than half the price.
I personally own a Camry Hybrid since 2007 now with 80K on the odometer - it is still a very good car and feels great to drive and have never had any major issues with it. I did replace my radio when the car was in warranty.
Good luck on your purchase and enjoy your new car.

MAKE SURE you read the entire contents of ECP and understand WHAT PARTS are covered. Toyota/Lexus ECP canada is not the same as american one! Gm/Honda their extended warranty covers everything, toyota's covers very specific items (ex: navigation, AFS, etc are not covered)

Why on earth would you buy a Prius if you don't drive that much?

If that's the case then why spend the money on the ECP?
I'm not familiar with leases - can you not have the car tinted yourself?

Why on earth would you buy a Prius if you don't drive that much?
I still do 20 000 km a year. If I did more mileage I wouldn't lease I would buy as it would be too costly for us. I'm getting a Prius because gas hasn't been cheap lately at 1.35$ per litre its really really high and will be increasing every year...I have yet to see it fall back below 1.20$ here in Montreal
I can get a luxury car or buyback my Matrix but I don't want to deal with repairs ( I have to invest in new disc and brake pads for my old lease) and I like having a new car every 3-4 years. The Prius price have drop to a reason amount $25k + the government is giving me $1000 towards it.
I can get the Tints on my own but I always feel like the dealership is makes tons of money and I want something free. It's either that or a reduction on the price but so far I haven't been successful as the buyback of my current lease is too high...and due to the Matrix 2012 low financing rate the dealer say that they won't be able to sell it to make some profit for it...But I'm not too sure.
So that is that....and I have to come with a Strategy to get a better deal...
