So I unlocked the Telus Xperia Ray and I am on Rogers, I can't seem to get the internet (not the wifi, the network) to work.. I do not currently have a plan with it, so I was wondering if I put my sim card in my old phone, got a plan, put it back in, would it then work? Or is there some other way? Or will the network internet not work on my phone?

On my older phone it did not have wifi so when I tried connecting to the internet it would be via the network.. It would then prompt me to select a one day, week pass, or subscribe to the internet plan.. then I could and I would have internet. I tried doing this on my phone but it is unable to load the network..

Also I imagine that the smartphone internet and the regular internet would be different.. was wondering if I had to maybe go talk to the people at Rogers?

You restart the phone yet?

I shut it off doing the 'power phone off'... not sure if there is a restart phone setting anywhere, I will look through it right now

Would I want to 'hard reset' the phone? To factory settings? I have unlocked the phone on my rogers sim card using Mobileincanada

You might have to add Roger's APN settings manually.

http://mms.gprs.rogers.com[/url]
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 302 (retrieved from SIM)
MNC: 720 (retrieved from SIM).
Authentication type:
APN type: default,mms,supl,Internet+mms

This covers all your bases, whether it be WAP, 3G, or MMS.

Make sure your Network Mode is set to Auto(or GSM Only, but you will find the internet to often be slow if you use this option)
And lastly, if it doesn’t work immediately after changing these settings, try going to Network Operators > Search Networks, then select Rogers, this will attempt to register you with the Rogers network.
I recommend rebooting your phone as well, after all this.]

I followed that and it still did not work- the thing is though, when he says "make sure Network Mode is set to Auto (or GSM only)... I went to try to do that but that option in the phone is greyed.

So I'm guessing the only solution is to return the phone :x?

Alright I'm going to go on a limb and say you haven't called Rogers customer support yet right..?
Pretty sure If you call and tell them that It doesn't work they can probably reset something on their end and It should work afterwards.

Put your SIM Into another phone and see If you can get data on that phone.

Correct Jim, I have not.

It works fine on my old phone with the data I added on for the day.

If I did call CS, wouldn't they have a problem with the fact its a Telus phone that I unlocked?

What could they possibly do? Terminate your plan/contract with them? That would be a good thing to be honest.
Just try, It doesn't hurt. Say you got It as a gift and unlocked It yourself etc.

Just don't even mention It, Go In and say your data doesn't work and that If they can reset something on their side. But use that an excuse If they ask where you got the phone from.

Have the internet working.. thank you everyone for the help, I really do appreciate your time and patience.

Now I have found the phone freezes very constantly when transitioning through the main menu screens or going from Facebook to Text Messaging.. atleast every five minutes of use, until I need to take the bactery out. I tried going on the PC companion and "repairing" it, but it turns out that it just wiped all my settings and re-installed the new Android update, and the freezing still occurs. I have been suggested to get a new sim card as this may help, but I'm thinking of switching the phone seeing as a friend has the same phone and reports no problems with it.
