View Full Version : Toronto water contains Fluoride
DaleCooper
Jul 21st, 2012, 09:46 PM
Fluoride is added to treated water to reduce the risk of dental cavities. Toronto Public Health advises the City about setting the fluoride target level for treated water. And in keeping with Health Canada Guidelines, our fluoride level maximizes dental health benefits and minimizes concerns about over exposure.

Fluoride is a medication. I never gave consent about being forced to be medicated. This is one of those things where we take it as the sheep that we are and it receives no public attention whatsoever.

It is more of a supplement than a medication.
It is an issue that receives attention when it is added to and when it is withdrawn from the water supply.

Whats wrong with fluoride? It is considered by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as "one of 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century". http://www.news-medical.net/health/Fluoride-Uses.aspx
Then again, rats given one part per million of Sodium Fluoride had offspring crippled at birth. http://www.kabencompany.com/article-FF-flouride-effects.html
Geez OP, I don't know how you should cope with this. Maybe double line that tinfoil hat?

You know when fluoridation first began? Nineteen hundred and forty-six. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.

Well maybe that's because fluoride naturally occurs in water, just like sodium does... because rocks contain it.
Distilled water may not contain much of it, but distilled water is about as natural as fluoridated municipal water.

I agree....I dont particularly like fluoridation of public water supplys.
I don't lose sleep over it, but it doesnt make sense to me. Lots of ppl also have deficiencies of calcium, iron, etc but we don't force that on them....why dont we just run Gatorade through the taps or something? Why stop there, maybe antibiotics too etc? There a lot of wrong that can be done in the name of health and safety.

Tooth decay is also "naturally occurring" so is testosterone. I would want neither in my water supply.
Your analogy would make more sense if they were putting oral sunscreen in the water...and why not? Skin cancer is a bigger problem than tooth decay...how many ppl aren't brushing their teeth these days anyways? Geez. Fluoride is about as necessary as something that fights scurvy.
Why not leave fluoride out of water and make toothpaste free instead?

The city was letting people try their water at some street festival and it was designed like a drinking fountain. So I tried using it only to be scorned by this prune old lady that was supposedly supervising the station. Idk but what does a torontonian do when they see a water station on a hot day? Drink from it right? No. You must have a bottle.
There was no sign so I assumed it to be a water fountain. I was wrong. I was kinda pissed though because the old prune lady yelled at me the even though I was walking away.

I agree..I think consent and awareness are at the heart of the matter. I am knowledgeable enough to be aware, and act accordingly, but I dont think everyone has this info. Why doesn't an info pamphlet about fluoride go out with the water bill very so often?
Providers should take greater responsibility to inform their customers.

Nicotine is produced naturally in the body as well...and yet nicotine from external sources in high doses is a bad thing.

I imagine most people would not read such a pamphlet - maybe a link to the info would be the mosst cost effective way to help concerned consumers seeking better information.

Actually the fluoride isn't as much of a concern as the water hardness from all unfiltered water. Basically we have too many minerals in our water, it's inefficient when it comes to cleaning (eg: you'd need far less detergent or soap in a dishwasher if the water was soft or contained less minerals). The health effects of that....there aren't really studies. Some say that our hard water is safe to drink and you need minerals at that level, others say it's too much and others say that filtered water is worse for you because of sodium filters or whatever. It's pretty hard to judge, the gov't is obviously gonna say that the water is safe but the same water they send to a farm is what they'd be okay with sending to a city in terms of ppm.

I disagree.. I think anyone older that Generation X, which is a large part of the home ownership population, does not seek all of their info from obscure webpages..try this..go to your mother (not email) and tell her there's some important info she would read on that web page you just cited. Good point - except my mom is very computer competent.
Maybe the supplier does not want to put pamphlets in with the bills due to not wanting to stir up a contraversy. I am all for informed consent - but they are not asking for consent and are not reviewing its' being added to the water. But hear me say I am not against such info being added to an occassional bill. I just think there is a reason they do not: it would be an invitation to be flamed.

Ya I agree, that's likely the reason as well, but IMO, that makes them not much better than tobacco companies that also didn't want to stir up controversy with awareness and disclosure. Or more fairly, food companies that didn't want to put nutitional info about their products on their packages.

Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura on truTV
Fluoride is An extremely neurotoxic chemical added to drinking water that interrupts the basic function of nerve cells in the brain, causing docile submissive behavior and IQ devastation
Did you know that sodium Fluoride is also one of the basic ingredients in both PROZAC (FLUoxetene Hydrochloride) and Sarin Nerve Gas (Isopropyl-Methyl-Phosphoryl FLUORIDE) - The truth the American public needs to understand is the fact that Sodium Fluoride is nothing more (or less) than a hazardous waste by-product of the nuclear and aluminum industries. In addition to being the primary ingredient in rat and cockroach poisons, it is also a main ingredient in anesthetic, hypnotic, and psychiatric drugs as well as military NERVE GAS! Why then is it allowed to be added to the toothpastes and drinking water of the American people?
Fluoride Used by Nazis to Sterilize Inmates and Make Them Docile
Fluoride has been historically used as a tool to oppress populations and was highly regulated. But because modern industry wants to make $$$, they have forced the idea that it is "good" for our teeth and it has poisoned a good portion of society.
Selected Timeline of Fluoride
1940 · Soviet concentration camps maintained by fluoride administration to inmates to decrease resistance to authority and induce physical deteriorization.
1942 · Germany becomes worlds largest producer of aluminum (and Sodium Fluoride). Fluoride is used in the concentration camps to render the prisoners docile and inhibit the questioning of authority.
1943 · Researchers from the US Public Health Service examine the health of residents of Bartlett, Texas to see if the 8ppm fluoride in the drinking water was affecting their health. It was checked again in 1953. They find that the death rate in Bartlett was three times higher than a neighboring town which contained 0.4 ppm fluoride.
1944 · "Even at 1ppm, fluoride in drinking water poisons cattle, horses and sheep" (Moules, G.R., Water Pollution Research and Summary of Current Literature, 1944.
1995 · A Chinese study on fluorides finds that the IQ of children is lowered in fluoridated areas. Zhang, I.B., et al, "Effect of a High Fluoride Water Supply on Children's Intelligence" [Pending Publication]
Facts of Fluoride
· Further studies by the New Jersey Department of Health have now confirmed a 6.9 fold increase in bone cancer in young males.
· Fluoride Increases Hip Fractures
· Drinking fluoridated water will double the number of hip fractures for both older men and women.
· Fluoride Increases Infertility
· Infertility in women was found to increase with water fluoridation.
· Food and Drug Administration (FDA) scientists reported a close correlation between decreasing total fertility rates in women between ages of 10 and 49, and increasing fluoride levels.
· Fluoride Is Unapproved By FDA
· The FDA considers fluoride an unapproved new drug for which there is no proof of safety or effectiveness.
· The FDA does not consider fluoride an essential nutrient.
· Fluoride Is Highly Toxic
· The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology has classified Fluoride as an unapproved dental medicament due to its high toxicity.
