i'm trying to connect my pc straigt to my media player witout a router, will it work? its a dlink.

Are you using a Windows PC? If you can assign a static ip address to your dlink, you may be able to map the drive in Windows.

Yes. Just make sure both are on the same subnet.

It applies to Xp and Vista but shd be similar for Win7. Note that you can safely disregard the crossover cable. Nowadays all cards have auto-crossover so you can use any cable

It is pretty obvious that OP can't use a cable to connect two machines.

please explain your present setup more clearly
is the computer that you want to connect to your media player currently connected to a modem for internet?is it also connected via ethernet?

You want to buy a powerline connector so you can also connect your media player so you can stream from your pc? because the media player doesnt do wifi?

my advice, do it properly. buy a router, then buy your powerline kit
