I'm looking for a set that includes box frame, plush queen mattress, and pillow top.

Looking at The Brick:

$799.99 - http://www1.thebrick.com/brickb2c/jsp/catalog/product.jsp?id=RSLINIPQP&navAction=jump&navCount=1

Should I go for it?

No Brick! Nightmares.
Do a search on RFD.

Personally, I have bought from them once and would never deal with them again. Very shabby craftsmanship.

Even a Sealy mattress would have shabby craftsmanship...?

Ok, read a horror story thread about The Brick that was 10 pages long. So the item you see in store is not what you receive. Where should I get a mattress... is Sleep Country reliable?

I was actually going with the $899 one sealy proback plush. I tried it out in store, it was great. However I had a terrible experience with the sales man with the credit card. Don't go for the card. Im stuck with a huge problem with their card and trying to sort it out ATM.

The warranty is if you purchase a mattress pad and rails (bargain with them). However, I would highly suggest you get all the paper work and warranty signed by them before you walk out. Since they give you no paper on warranty information.

I am thinking of going into Sleep Country and will try to find a similar one, they beat the price by 5%. However, there are also horror stories about them on red flagdeals. I really don't know where you would be able to buy a mattress. It seems that every mattress store has a horror story. Maybe take note of the mattress tag that's stitched on the mattress and compare when yours comes in.

I don't understand how the showroom ones would be different, that would be fraud. After much needed research of the Brick, I learned you have 7 days for a refund if you have the original packagining of the items and 7 days to exchange if you're not satisfied without the packaging. When the delivery men come, most of the time they are told to "clean up" for you. So don't let them take the packaging if you choose to go for them.

Yeah, I read your thread about that. I looked into The Brick card - 29.99% interest! That's insane. Definitely won't take them up on that offer.

Now I have doubts about Sleep Country after reading that horror story thread. I see I can get them to price-match a similar mattress, even if the names don't match. Worst case scenario if we have trouble with mattress quality, I have a lawyer friend who will help me sue.

So what should I look out for when buying... some common issues I see:

- delayed shipment (by 3 to 4 weeks);
- delivered on scheduled time and date;
- mattress doesn't have strange smell;
- low-quality material
- anything else...?

Try Costco.

The entire mattress industry is pretty messed up if you ask me. You'll notice that no stores actually carry the same model and prices are just random. In general stay away from Brick and Leon's IMO since they have pushy sales staff. I bought stuff from Sleep Country and the experience was good but this doesn't seem to be consistent.

I recently bought a king mattress from Sears and it was a very good experience also. I would personally recommend it but not sure how others feel. At least I haven't seen too many horror stories from there.

Costco is of course always good for anything, but you need the membership but they do have top notch customer service. Also they don't carry all the brands (but they do have Sealy).

What brand was it? I see that Sears has something called Sears-o-pedic - not sure if I should avoid that.

I was at Sears the other day and I asked the sales person who manufactures Sears O Pedic, she said it depends on the mattress but they are either made by Simmons, Sealy or Springwall(?). She said she would be able to tell me who its manufactured by depending on the mattress we chose. The mattresses at Sears were the most expensive with a decent mattress at $799 being the lowest one and was quite entry-level compared to the other stores I have checked out.

The one I really liked was http://www1.thebrick.com/brickb2c/jsp/catalog/product.jsp?id=ROCKHAMQP&navAction=jump&navCount=0&icl=Matt_HotdealC&ici=ROCKHAMQP&_requestid=671400

I just saw a similar mattress at BadBoy http://www.badboy.ca/mattresses/beaches-plush-queen-mattress-boxspring-set.html

(compare the specs). Its $688 including box spring. I am thinking of going to Sleep Country to see if they have a similar one and may price match it. Which looks like: http://sleepcountry.ca/tabid/131/products/214/default.aspx

Remember you can always price match but you will never find the same name mattress because they all cater the names to each specific store but they are the same mattresses. Just compare the manufacturer and the specs and they will help you out. I did read that the best brands were Sealy and Simmons and Serta but read from many places to stay way from Serta. Since I got my order finally cancelled at The Brick I'm still deciding on which one I should go for.

Costco seems to have similar mattresses but a bit higher prices and they will not price match. Though I heard their exchange policy is great and hassle-free.

But whatever the store is, you will have to purchase a QUALIFYING waterproof mattress pad and rails (depending on the store) to have a warranty. The sales person at the brick told me I would get a lifetime warranty if I purchase the rails so we went ahead with it. I went on their website reading their policy and what do you know! The lifetime warranty is only on mattresses if you pay $999 before tax. Funny isn't it? The mattress we were going with was $899 so we were actually NOT entitled for a lifetime warranty. We were LIED to once again.

I am going to add something here. It seems that Sleep Country as well as the Brick are also outright liars.

I called another Brick store to verify store policy, he told me that I will have a 20 year warranty on any mattress without buying rails, no matter the cost. When The Brick's website says only on mattresses over $999 with the purchase of rails.

I called sleep country and asked the same thing, he said there is a 20 year warranty without the purchase of mattress pad and rails, when their website says 10 years with the purchase of mattress pad. When I asked him if I will get a warranty paper stating their policy when I purchase it, he said you will get it on your mattress when it is delivered. Ha.

It seems like they are clearly lying about their own policies to just get a sale. Completely useless. Id say stick to Sears or Costco.

Need to record some of these conversations to use against them in the lawsuit later lol.

K, screw it. I'm just going to get an IKEA mattress with pillow top (http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/80206889/) - $399.00. As another poster mentioned elsewhere, IKEA stress-tests their furniture, so I think it's the best way to go. If it breaks I don't care, cheap enough that I'll just buy another one. Mattress warranties seem to be useless and unreliable.

The Costco full mattress is also $399, and it's awesome. I've had one for years (not sure if it's the same one they're carrying now) and I have no complaints. Try it out alongside the Ikea one.

Tried the IKEA pillow-top at the store today. Terrible - felt like the mattress was snapping me in half.

Going to look at Mattress Mart tomorrow - they're rated A+ with BBB.

Costco has the great warranty but they have limited choices. Mattresses aren't like coffeemakers, they would be a pain in the butt to return to the store, no matter how generous the warranty. There is also no way of testing out the mattress in Costco because they are all stacked side by side.

I would definitely stay away from the Brick and Sleep Country. If you want to buy from a department store, make sure you buy it at 50% off, or heavily discounted, anyway. They tend to mark up the price of all sets and then have promos on a select few week after week...I hate that practice, btw.

I bought queen mattress set from "Mattress Mart" (mattressmart.ca) today.

I looked over their website last night, and they mention that the 50% off stuff is mattress industry is bs, so I liked their honest approach. And the fact they have A+ rating with BBB made me choose them.

My visit today didn't take more than 20 minutes lol. I walked in at 5:40pm - place closes at 6pm on Saturdays. Damn was it ever fast and easy. I didn't even have to wait to take it home. Drove my car to the back, they threw the mattress and box spring on the roof of my coupe, tied it down with some rope they provided. I drove it home without a hitch, got it off the roof and into house easily, and tonight I'm sleeping on it.

Talked to the sales rep about the 10 year warranty - said I don't have to worry about having a bed-frame or anything like that. Just need to make sure the mattress doesn't have any visible stains when making a warranty claim - tried to sell me the $99 mattress protector, but I resisted. I figure if I need to make warranty claim, I'll pay a company to come in and clean any stains.

Might be going back tomorrow to get the mattress protector though... Funny thing - when I was throwing out old mattress, found it and the box-spring were covered in MOLD. Lots and lots of m. Disgusting! Can't believe we've been sleeping on that. We might have developed illnesses from it because wife and I have been having health issues. We live in a basement unit in a triplex, and I think the mold growing in our washroom might have spread to our bedroom. So a mattress protector - if it protects from mold, I'll have to get it. Otherwise, no way I'll be able to make a warranty claim couple years from now.
