Hey all,
I'm looking to purchase a car in Ontario (Ottawa) that can take the beating of the winter (I'm from Vancouver... so I have only heard of the crazy salt damage it can do on a car). I was curious what you guys would offer for a Kia Rio5 over Invoice. I am looking at a 2013 Kia Rio5 Ex.
I have been to one dealership, and the additional pricing seemed a bit sketchy, and I figured I should run it by you guys
Freight - $1,455
PDI - $561
Admin - $599 (Includes window laser etching)
Tire / AC levy - $135
I went online and I saw that Freight AND PDI should be a combined $1455. I called two dealerships in Vancouver, and they both charge $1455 for freight and PDI combined. Is it different in Ontario (to charge PDI separate)?
Edit: I'm also curious if it's advisable to get undercoating and/or this device (forgot name) that can prevent rusting. I only plan on leasing the car as I'm only here for work and I don't have any plans to keep this car after 4 years.

If freight and PDi are 1455 combined and you can show them online, then use that info to your advantage. 2013's are just out so there won't be much of a deal besides what the OEM's offer would be (0% interest etc).
I really want to warn you off any of the anti rust devices. They are a gimmick and ahuge profit center for the sales people. If anything, get Krown or equivalent rustproofing.

I have called Kia Canada directly and they have reassured me that Freight and PDI is a combined $1455... I just wanted to hear from others if this is common practice in Ontario.
If I'm leasing a car for 4 years, would it be advisable to invest money into services like Krown, or equivalent rustproofing?

I bought a 2012 Kia Rio5 in April. The additional fees I paid were (in the order as I see them on the Vehicle Purchase Agreement):
Contract Registration Fee: $60.61
Enviro Fees: $29.20
Freight: $1455.00
Federal Air Conditioner Tax: $100.00
OMVIC: $5.00
I also paid $84.00 Licence Fee, I transferred my old plates over but needed a new sticker.
Hope that helps
Thanks
Brian

Thanks. Do you think you could shed some light on the discount you got on the car, along with the model?

No...and to be honest, for every testimonial of how great these "rustproofing" services are, there are more folks that will say they did nothing, or very little, if anything at all.
don't expect much discount other than what the manufacturer is offering on a 2013 model.
One tactic that may help is to go into the dealer a few times and then a few days before the end of the month, be prepared to buy. You will have your biggest opportunity for any "bonus' then. End month are when they need to get their sales numbers up.

That Admin fee is PURE profit for the dealer, its also pure BS. You should easily be able to get them to take it off. If you don't like the dealership goto another one. I find that car dealerships with higher volumes usually give better deals and I like dealing with younger salesman, they tend to have more drive to sell in my experience.

I would go to another dealer. This dealer is just pure dishonest for charging Freight and "EXTRA PDI" separately. They should not get any business.

I bought the EX with UVO, manual, silverstone beige and it was $20,700 out the door. Not sure what the actual discount was, I'll have to check, but I believe it was just under $1000.
Hope that helps,
Thanks

Thanks Brian.
Does anyone know why the Cash Purchase is $500 less (vs. finance) on the web site? I couldn't find any promotions that are linked to cash -purchase only.
Is the difference in balance between finance and lease due to the interest rate on lease (I'm not referring to the estimated monthly payment, but the balance)

I am being charged $1455 Freight + $599 PDI + $399 admin for a Kia Rio5 SX 5Door MT and then thrown a discount of $1263.50. I dont know how they come up with these figures but they play around the $# to get around what you want to pay them. MSRP is $19695.00
