View Full Version : Anyone elses neighbourhood being overrun by bunnies?

A few years ago, it'd be common to see a wild bunny here and there.
I just went for a 10 minute drive to Timmies and back, I saw 8 bunnies. That's insane! Are they reproducing at an insane rate because of our mild winter or something?
Everytime I walk home from the YRT stop, it's almost guarenteed I'm going to see at least one bunny running around in the grass on my 5 minute walk home.
Anyone elses neighbourhood experiencing the same?

Yeah its due to the mild winter.
I don't mind those cute little creatures hopping around. They're evolutionary f**ked so let them be. They die very easily.
Bunny's are one of the most fragile animals that I know of

Don't mind them, as I dont have a garden. :) But it's insane how many of them are out there!

Yeah, I usually see about 10-15 on any given day.
I think if there were more coyotes the rabbit population would drop a bit, but of course everytime people see a coyote they freak out trying to call people to come and kill it.

Read up on University of Victoria. They had a bunny problem where the campus was overrun by bunnies.

It's a free dinner for you whenever you feel like it, why complain? Just put out a trap or two.

Coyotes, fishers and even barn cats keep the numbers down in my area. I rarely see bunnies. I see much more deer than anything.

Rabbits, Monarch Butterflies and Dragonflies. I play outdoor ball hockey in a park every weekend, and there has been many occasions of people running into some or all of the 3 while we play, its pretty hilarious. Mouthful of bugs!

I don't mind bunnies cuz they are cute. Nothing is worse then walking to you door at night and finding a skunk with his bum in their air.

I hear ya. I keep telling my neighbour not to knock on my door when he stumbles home from the bar.

Too itchy

Yeah, on my street there's a black and white bunny. Almost every morning I see one of the bunny on my front lawn. So cute, they just sit there eating my weeds and grass. Apparently, they were domesticated and then released by one of the former owners. So cute. ^.^...just as long as I don't get overrun by Ravin Rabbids! LOL!

I don't mind the bunnies but i hate the Geese. They poop everywhere and attack people. They are pests just like raccoons, cockroaches, and cats.

Too lazy to WALK the 800-900 meters to the nearest Tim's? C'mon, there's one at nearly every street corner. Ok, maybe not in TO, but you should walk.
THAT being said, last night on a late night (10pm) walk to Shoppers, I saw 4 or 5. Two that got really close to me.
I live in the Steeles E / Warden area. I didn't see them on Steeles, but I did just south in the subdivision.

Rabbit crap can be just as bad as Canadian Goose crap. It's just harder to see the rabbit crap on your lawn, but it's still there.

Rabbit poop is very dry and not a big deal to step in. Rabbits actually recycle their poop - they are corprophagic - they eat it upon first discharge to get out the nutrients missed the first time around.
I used to have numerous bunnies in my neighbourhood - I hated seeing them squished on the road every morning. Then an owl moved into the area - I have not seen a single bunny in months. I have a gopher who likes my marigolds etc though.

Rabbit poop are just small, hard, pellets, kind of like peppercorn. Geese poop is big and mushy and it is littered all over the sidewalks and playgrounds where children and dogs play.

I have a few that eat all the stuff in my garden. The only thing they don't eat is the cilantro for some reason. Then there is a cat that comes and thinks my garden is a gigantic litter box. I had to put a fence around the garden.

I think Wild bunnies started birthing their multiple litters earlier than usual because of the mild winter. Bunnies are really cute but they are not so cute when they eat all of your foilage in the yard.

We live across from a ravine and we used to see them everywhere. For some reason I see a lot less of them this year. Haven't seen any coyotes neither. The bunnies never bothered me though. We have lots of lavenders in our front lawn and bunnies really don't like smelly stuff so they always stay away from our yard.

In that case, you should update your location from near Scarborough Town Ctr. to Near Steeles E / Warden Ave.

WALK? A ten minute drive could mean anything. I live by the highway so in 10 minutes I could be at Costco Warden from Markham Rd and Finch. That's 11km of hills and slopes! No thanks unless if I were biking.

I notice this year there seems to be a lot of American red squirrels as well (at least, I think that is what the species is). At first I thought they were just baby squirrels, but I notice these little squirrels aren't getting any bigger and they are everywhere.

I have a gopher who likes my marigolds etc though.
I hate gophers! Varmint lowest members of food chain no good pests.
Man, free to kill gophers at will. To kill you must know your enemy, and in this case, my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will not quit, ever.
