Finally the CCTV is doing something about this after massive amounts of people complaining, over the years. Over the past 30 years having to pay for channels and stupid packages just to get the channels you want. Charging customers and making them subscribe to basic cable packages (which most channels are ***** btw) to get the channels they want has always been a flat out scam! To get the HD channels, you have to subscribe to the SD ones first. Why, cause its all a scam and all about greed! Thats why cable companies have the best and most popular HD channels in different packages with the crappy ones. Its all propaganda!

But now the CRA is finally going to make it legit where we can just pay for the channels we watch. No more having to pay $40 a month for the basic package, to get the 3 maybe 4 HD channels you only want and actually watch. Hello, this aint 1999 anymore, HDTV is well and alive, people dont blow their money on HDTVs to watch SD channels when those channels are available in HD! If someone just wants a few HD channels, let them choose them individually! Remind me again why we're paying for the SD channels to get the HD channels?

If you are like my parents and only watch certain region specific channels and dont even watch basic channels, no more having to pay for that garbage! My parents watch 3 channels, alone the 3 channels is $15 total, but it costs them $60 a month cause theyre paying for the mandatory basic cable package. Thats pure greed. This is why I have no respect for any TV service provider. Theyre no different than cell phone providers and banks, all 3 like to milk their customers to death for every thing that theyre worth.

This is why so many people have ditched tv service over the years.

I have no idea who the CCTV is, but the Revenue Agency is now regulating our TV channels? And here I thought they just collected taxes

Are you going to start complaining when channels will be $5 a channel?

This is Canada... Popular channels subsidize the crappy ones that would otherwise disappear because no-one wants to watch them. It's not entirely the telcos fault they're forced to carry many channels that flat out suck balls and they have to pay for that infrastructure somehow.

That being said they're sure not trying to change the status quo at all.

You can't seriously expect that they'll let you go that easily.

Actually it completely is their fault. They are way too profitable to be a ethical and responsible corporate business.

Its not like the companies will lose money. Think of all the money that they have accumulated from all of us over the past 30 years. If anything, they should be giving us all refunds from the past 10-20 years (or however long each customer has had service iwth them) for all the overcharging. But these companies have no morals and no respect for themselves or their customers so it will never happen. Theyre the absolute bottom of the barrel scum in terms of pure greed. I would put them 2nd right behind banks. Banks are hands down and always will be the greediest industry. They've tried and still are trying to take over the world. If these TV providers had morals, they would have dropped the mandatory SD package garbage years ago. But theyre too greedy.

If any of these companies had basic common sense they would do this, imagine all the customers that would jump on and transfer over. If I started a TV service provider, this is the first thing i would implement. You pay for the channels you want one by one. I would steal so many customers it wouldnt even be funny, and I gaurentee every other salavaged provider would finally wake up and smell the roses and follow suit. No more $80 bills for watching your 3 $10 channels a month.

I don't see how this invalidates my post.

I think his problem would be that no network will work in agreement with you since bell/rogers/shaw control the market.
