l looked into it many years ago, so things may have changed.
Back-in-the-day, there were 3 courses one needed to take to become registered, two of which could be done online or via correspondence. The third course had a mandatory class component.
Here's the OREA website:
http://www.orea.com/en/OREA-Real-Estate-College/Become-a-Real-Estate-Salesperson
Good luck :)

do you have a bachelor's degree? if you do you can go into other subfields in real estate like analyst, management, valuation

Just chiming in with some realistic input. Long term you may not want to be in this career. The proliferation of internet listing sites will render the career obsolete in the future. The same thing has happened to investment advisors who are becoming obsolete with all of the discount brokerages now in existence. Other than having a for sale listing available on MLS, there really is no reason for anyone to have a listing with a real estate broker. If you have any inkling of other career aspirations..you may want to investigate further.

Should i get a real estate license just for the sake of getting one in case my family or relatives want to move?

I mean, this way we can keep the $10,000 the real estate agent would take home from a sale.

if you've read through the process now you need to do an articling process so you need to work with a broker for 1-2 years....reco changed the process from before where you could just take online courses

I agree with you that the internet has changed things in a profound way, and the same is true for other industries as you have mentioned. But I think there will will always be real estate agents around. Yes, I think that full service brokerages and 5% commissions will start to dwindle, but people will still want some degree of hand holding. Even with the internet, travel agents still exist (and the sums of money involved in travel bookings compared to real estate transactions is considerably less).
