You can always buy applecare and use it as long as your phone is still under warranty. Even just 1 day before it expires

This had to be purchased at the time you purchased your phone, but I'm not sure if it ever came to Canada?

It is in Canada now and Apple's implementation is terrible. At the time when the 4s was released it wasn't available and I was advised by the staff at the Apple store that I could purchase the normal AppleCare at any time, providing it was within a year. I recently went to an Apple store and was told that it's not available anymore as AppleCare+ has replaced it. Unfortunately for me AppleCare+ must be purchased at time of phone purchase and not an option and AppleCare (non +) is no longer available.

listen to this guy, Ebay accounts get stolen too folks. scammers could have hijakked it and are selling off the care packs. who knows...that's so much negative in the last 12 months to not cause someone pause.

Similar to the iTunes codes scam, crafty sellers have been reselling fraudulent Apple Care codes online. These codes are obtained by either:

1. Key generators which generate codes or
2. Purchased via fraudulent credit cards

The best part is, Apple accepts the codes when you enter them online. You, the buyer are happy, and leave the seller a positive feedback. All good, right? Wrong.
After 1-2 months, Apple discovers that the code is invalid, and they revoke the registration - so your warranty is invalid. Additionally, you lose the ability to file a claim with PayPal since it's well beyond the 45 day claim period. So you've just lost hundreds of dollars for nothing.

Unscrupulous sellers are going one step ahead - they are printing authentic apple care boxes with the bogus code # in the package. These custom printed boxes do not have a serial # for the purchase (authentic boxes have the serial # outside) To complicate matters more, these sellers are powersellers - some with 10,000+ positive feedbacks! So what do you do to protect yourself?

Here's how to stay smart:
1. As soon as you receive your applecare code, call Apple customer service and verify that everything is ok. NEVER buy a code online if the seller will not give you the serial # of the box it came in - VERY IMPORTANT!
2. If you do receive a boxed package - check to see if the serial # is located outside. Call AppleCare and let them know the serial # and if it is valid.

Everyone loves to save money - when we were selling AppleCare for 5% below Apple's prices.. we always received questions like 'Why the hell is your applecare so expensive? I can buy it for $100 cheaper!' - well now you know why.

UPDATE:

Here is another method that sellers are taking advantage of customers. There are sellers who are buying real Applecare packages, opening the box - and then selling the codes to customers for half off. All good, right?

Not really, once the customer buys the product, receives the code and activates it - after a few months the seller applies for a refund on the AppleCare! (for the remaining months of warranty) The seller will get his/her money back, while the customer will lose any remaining warranty and will have no ability to get his/her money back from the seller.

If the customer contacts Apple, apple will ask to see a receipt and the serial # of the packaged box - obviously the customer has no such thing as the package was purchased under the seller's name - so only the seller will get his/her refund.

PS - We have received feedback from other sellers that we have put this guide up so that customers will come to us to purchase boxed AppleCare. First of all, we do not sell AppleCare (boxed) anymore and have not sold any since the last 2 years. Our business model is geared towards pro-audio and musical instruments.

I bought Apple Care for my daughters Ipod Touch 4G 1.5 years ago. Part the process to register it to the Ipod was to send them a scan of the receipt to validate that Apple Care was bought from a legitimate vendor. I remember this well because I sent them a copy of the Ipod receipt from Target in the US and shook my head when then emailed and said they needed the receipt from the purchase of Apple Care from Walmart here in Canada.

I've purchased applecare for my macbook pro from an eBay seller but paid a bit more however I never experienced those issues with apple (fairview store) they just checked on their computer that I was covered and repaired it.

Brick and mortar stores don't sell regular iPhone AppleCare, just AppleCare plus for iPhone--only available within 30 days of purchase.

Phone Apple and Apple website sell regular AppleCare--only available within one year of iPhone purchase (get it before 365 days--don't cut it close).

eBay remains a crapshoot. Why take a chance with an $800 phone?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you can register the fake ones just fine. It's just when it comes down to requesting service that you will have a problem. Again, this may not happen to you, but the registration is not the problem point. Good luck.

Applecare doesn't cover a cracked screen, unless it's a case of spontaneous cracking. Applecare+ is different from Applecare.

Don't think within a box.

There's poor "extended" warranties offered by some (namely FS & BB) with poor service and policies, and then there's actual quality warranty service from manufacturers that is good when you need it either within the 1-year offered or extra 2 that you pay for. Apple is a shining example of great warranty service.

You may not need a a warranty for your desktop or TV but my MacBook Air is comprised of extremely expensive replacement parts and has a lot crammed into a small, thin space, most of which is not user-replaceable. Makes sense to invest $200 (student pricing) to make sure my $1200 investment lasts a guaranteed 3 years (unless you drop and break the damn thing).

My understanding is NO you can't. My iphone 4s is from Australia but i am not allowed to repair it in Canada. I would have to send it back to Australia. I am not sure if they offer some sort of courier service to handle such issues though.

I don't believe AppleCare has accidental coverage. (edit: just for iphones apparently)

An alternative to AppleCare is Square Trade, however they also do not offer accidental warranties in Canada. Their rates are usually fair and they have a -20% coupon going around if you ask one of their reps over the phone.

Just a heads up...

I went to the Apple store the other day to get my refurbished iPhone (my lock button's springs broke) and I was told by the sales rep that I had 3 extra months of warranty on it, and that if I chose to get Apple care, I could. However, I'd have to bring the phone in for inspection before Apple care can be tied to the iPhone.

I don't know exactly how this Amazon thing would work according to Apple. Because if my iphone was not up to Apple's standards and I got this 39.99 thing, I'd have to return the Apple care to this ebay guy/girl. HOWEVER, maybe Apple makes some kind of secret exception. Who knows.

But just to be safe, I wouldn't trust this ebay seller.
