My old ones broke and now i need new ones. Only looking for 2.0 (no sub) and will be used for mainly gaming, movies and sometimes music.

What's your budget? I bought a pair of Creative Inspire T10's for $40 and they're decent.

I personally like the quick changes I can make with a simple T-amp installed. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=310-300

I have this connected to my pc with a small set of bookshelf speakers and it sounds pretty good. As longs as the speakers don't need too much juice to drive them it should be ok. It's driving some small Polks I got on sale awhile back.

Look up X-Mini. Its about $30, and online only in Canada, so S&H will run you about $5.
It was actually for portability but I use it as my desktop speakers.
I haven't come across any speakers from any company that can rival it except Bose.

You can try Creative SBS A35. It delivers great stereo sound for your MP3 player, laptop or desktop PC.

I have the Creative GigaWorks T20 Series 1 (replaced by series 2) and like them quite a bit. I've had them for 5 years and they've had no issues. Not Hifi quality, but impressive for computer speakers. check the reviews on those or the larger T40.

Saw some videos of the x-mini! Is it that good especially for the size of the speakers????

My wife does music recording and needs good speakers. She uses the Bose Companion 2 Series II. Sell for $109 but occasionally go on sale for about $85.

The sound difference is stunning! I am quite envious of her speakers.

I just got these from Futureshop to hook up to my Xbox 360 slim: they sound beautiful. I don't think they're terribly loud (I haven't tested them on full volume yet), but I didn't want anything too loud or with a subwoofer, and it came highly recommended based on an average of 4 stars out of 5 from 419 reviews on Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Duet-Speaker-System-Portable-Music/product-reviews/B0007XU370/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1)

Apparently these original JBL Duets are much better than their sequels, the Duet II and III.

There is no headphone jack though, so if you need one, you may want to look elsewhere. Also, without a sub, there isn't a lot of bass, so if you like your music bass-heavy, you may want to look at a 2.1 setup with a subwoofer.

I checked shopbot and Google and I couldn't find it for cheaper than Futureshop's regular price (oddly enough).

As with all speakers, I'd recommend going to a store and actually listening to them first, though. My main desktop speakers are Altec Lansing with a sub (I forget what model) and I spent a good hour or more listening to all the speakers they had at Futureshop before settling on those, so I'm kind of picky about sound. I took a chance on the Duets, not having heard them but based solely on the Amazon reviews, and I was impressed and pleasantly surprised. I recommend checking out the Amazon reviews (both the 5 star ones and the 1 star ones) for a good balance of what you can expect.

They're good for their size (they go a lot louder than you'd expect from something that small, and depending on the model, you can get ones that pop up to expand the sound a bit).

My mom got one for free when she signed up for Fido from the Eaton Centre Fido kiosk, and I was very impressed by how loud they got and the clarity of sound. Apparently you can get more than one and just daisy-chain them for even more sound (I'm not sure how left-right stereo separation works on that, though).
