View Full Version : FS/BB or EB Games to Buy Xbox?

I was about to go to EB Games during lunch to get my xbox.
Should I get it at FS or BB instead? Is there a difference in some kind of warranty? EB Games just told me on the phone that there is only a 90 Day Manufacturer's warranty on it.
Does FS and BB offer a different one? Someone please answer quick, i'm going in like 2 hours :cheesygri
**EDIT**
I called futureshop and they said its a 90 Day Manufacturer's Warranty as well, however I can get a 2 year warranty from futureshop if I pay $30. Did anyone else do that? Is it worth it? Thx.

EB warranties on xbox is $25 for one year, $34 (I believe) for two. The difference is, for EB warranties, they'll swap it for you on the spot, no questions asked. And you can return it at any EB games store. We got a few back with tray jams, and just swapped them for new ones. By default, EB only covers the first 14 days, 15-90 is you sweet talking Microsoft, 90+ is good luck, have fun! :D
And we've all heard about the horror stories with FS's warranties... don't know if BB is any better.

I would have rented that game before you bought it, but too late for that.
I've been pretty vocal about that game in the past. It has the worst camera control of any game I've played.

Well as long as you've been warned. ;)
There is a fix available/on the way for it, though you have to have xbox live.

To be honest, I wouldn't go to EB for games unless it's a trade in 3 get it free deal but they do price match. But for consoles, they're the same price, if not, they'll match it anyways. Also, I feel that their warranty is better than FS (dunno about BB) since I don't think I've ever heard a good story about FS warranties.

unless it's a trade in 3 get it free deal
So how does that deal work? Is it any 3 games can be traded for 1 new game?
I was considering selling my copy of Fable that came with my crystal Xbox(and possibly crimson skies). It might be cheaper to wait, pick up some game as cheap as possible used, and then turn it into a new game.

i asked them about this the other day...i'm not sure if its any game u can get for 3 games.....like i saw a sign saying trade in 3 games for a new copy of Halo 2.......so maybe its on specific games...but i'm guessing u can ask for other games instead of halo 2...
as for the games u can trade in....theres a list of specific games...i'm not sure where to get the proper list....u should just call in and mention the names of 3 games ur considering to give and they'll say yes/no...
cause otherwise ppl could simply trade in 3 catwoman games for xbox which were like $10 each at walmart once, and get Halo 2 for $30 =)

Sounds about right.
I'd be pretty shocked if Fable/Crimson Skies weren't on that list.
So if I could find a game on the list cheap used I might be able to save some money.

There is a manual camera fix for Ninja Gaiden if you're a Live! subscriber (sign up for a free 2 month trial).
Makes the game way more fun and not stuck to stupid "dramatic" camera angles that are useless and get in the way of good gameplay.

I found the EB's list of offers and rejected games.
PRetty much any game that isn't too old is valid.

Edit: Actually are those deals on the EB page the only ones? If so they suck. They pretty much convert each game into $10.

I won't buy any hardware from EB, they do NOT accept return once it's opened. Yes, hardware, once opened, no return. Once I bought a joystick, didn't like it, and wanted to return it on 2nd day, they said in their policy, item can only be returned in original condition, including hardware. So no more business from me.

I just came back and purchased the holiday pack. I got the 2 Year extended warranty for $42... why its 42 and not just 40 beats me =\....
but i talked to the rep and he said if anything is broken (even if i broke it myself) i can bring it in and they'll give me a brand new one on the spot.
So perhaps before my warranty is up i can smash it myself and get a brand new one? ;) nono wouldnt do that...
Well I dont think you can use a controller, "not like it" and then return it...the xbox itself has a warranty, so thats why they'll swap it, whereas the joystick you purchased didn't have a warranty.

thanks a lot, i'll definitely check it out.
***EDIT****
after reading more, apparently the hurricane pack 1, not only fixes the camera but makes it a heck of a lot more difficult....
theres no real way to fix the camera, and play the original "not as tuff" version....=\....oh well we'll see what happens

You should. Before the warranty is up, make sure you start off with a clean, fresh, new one.

At FS, BB, Walmart, Zellers, I'm pretty sure customer can return any hardware within 15 days. I don't know why it has anything to do with WARRANTY?? I'm not returning it after 2 months or 2 years because it broke. I returned it on 2nd day because I don't like the handling of this joystick.

Honestly, Wal-Mart. They won't hassle you nearly as much as a FS/BB will, if something goes wrong.

Go for whichever place has it the cheapest. For me I'd buy at BestBuy or FutureShop since I have 20% off gift cards. As for warranty, I've never had any of my Nintendo systems go defective on me. I treat my toys with care :cheesygri

I agree. Nintendo (and Sega) seem to put a lot more care into the quality of their products than $ony or Micro$oft. Kinda sad really to see them fade.
I haven't had a Nintendo or Sega console go bad on me but I have a PS1 and PS2 go bad on me thanks to the crappy laser. My Xbox Thomson drive seems to have a hard time reading media now :(

i'm curious, are you planning on modding your box? cause if you are, there would have been no point getting the warranty

nah, i was thinking about modding it, but i decided i wasn't going to...heh of course i wouldn't have gotten a warranty if i was going to mod it...
anyhoo.....ninja gaiden is really sexxxxy...graphics i mean.....camera is indeed annoying...not to the point where i can't play it....at least yet...
haha it took me 19 times to beat the first boss..and even then i ended up doing it in a cheap way =\......tough game indeed....but still pretty fun.
