I am seriously considering the airport extreme wire less router, does anyone know if and when apple puts items on sale. I do qualify for the student price of 159.00 or are there other retailers that sell this item a bit cheaper. Also I would love to hear any opinions pro or con.

Apple rarely have sales. Never saw a sale on accessories. However, you could buy a Refurbished Airport Extreme for 129$. The refurb program from apple is extremely good, Quality control is impeccable and all items bear the same warranty as if it were new. I have had several experiences with Refurbs on the Apple Store and I never had any problems whatsoever. go to Refurb.me to monitor stock levels and pricing on any item.

I have it, love it, will not go on sale but now wish I had time capsule 3TB instead.

802.11ac right around the corner, I imagine the next wave of Apple hardware refreshes will have it.

Cisco Connect Cloud looks interesting too:

Cisco connect cloud is not all that exciting. I tried it. Its only great for 10 minutes then you realize "who the h*ll needs to use this?"

I mean even from a IT perspective it's still too limited in controls to be useful.

Had an airport express for about 6 years. Worked great. About 2-3 years ago I upgraded to the airport extreme. It's a great and reliable unit. Never have any issues with it at all. Highly recommend, and get it from the refurbished section on apples site as posted above to save a few bucks. Apple refurbished products also highly recommended.

How were the parental controls for family members (ie; the kids' multiple devices)?

My wife runs a business from home and I like the idea of "Guest access".

I wouldn't mind something easier and more intuitive than going into my router and doing what the CCC advertises as long as it works.

It seems the refurb shop has a generation 5 and one from 2009, I assume it's generation 4. Any suggestions on which one to order. Cost difference of 10.00

Just order the latest one they have. Really, $10 matters for something that will be on 24 hours a day?

Definitely get the latest model. Faster speeds and more reliable. also higher resale value down the road.

personally, I'm waiting for 802.11ac for the airport extreme before I dive in

Any idea when 802.11 ac will be released on the airport? If its going to be a while, I may need to get something cheap for the intern.
