Hey Folks,

I can't believe there has been no mention of this deal yet. This is for the turbo model of this tablet.

http://ncix.com/products/?sku=72473&promoid=1261

Specs are pretty reasonable:

Dimensions: 276 x 167 x 12.6mm
Display: 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 TN
Weight: 649g (Flash)
Processor: 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4460 (2 x Cortex A9, PowerVR SGX540)
Connectivity: WiFi , Optional 3G (in Europe)
Memory: 1GB
Storage: 8GB Flash + microSD
Battery: 7450 Mah (I got this from a forum, so no guarantees)

Also,
Bluetooth, GPS.

Only has a front facing camera (good for Skype etc), but since I personally think a rear facing camera on a tablet is useless, this is a non issue for me.

Here's a review on AnandTech (http://www.anandtech.com/show/5802/the-archos-g9-tablet-reviews-fast-enough)

I can't take the credit for the find. User12340 (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/staples-nexus-7-233-1-27-7-28-7-coupon-1205972/3/#post15091636) posted about it in the Nexus Staples thread, and I ordered one as soon as I did a bit of reading :).

Looks like it gets decent reviews, and has all the things the Nexus is missing (hdmi, microSD). Only cons I see are the screen is not awesome, and the processor, though fast, is no Tegra 3. That said, it's $30 cheaper (with free shipping) and a much bigger screen (10.1).

From what I've read, it supports most 1080p files without issue, *AND* comes with a kickstand :).

Finally, it ships with Android 3.2, but apparently gets on OTA update to ICS (And rumours of JB for future). ICS is totally stock, and the unit is fully Google certified, so Play etc all works....

Keep in mind, deal is today only...

Cheers!

DB

Unfortunately, Archos didn't give the original 101 the Android Market. It looks as though they learned their lesson with this one. It might be hot, but it's hard to justify with the Nexus 7's price point sadly. The huge spinning disc is a bonus on this device, though the power consumption will provide a terrible battery life.

One thing about Archos: they could always decode formats incredibly. However, MX Video Player does the same now.

I guess it comes down to opinion. Thanks op.

*EDIT*

Neglect the storage comment. The 101 can technically come with up to 250gb internal, but this one ships with the 8gb flash. Also note the dimensions for width are half an inch.

Archos has had problems with both quality control in the past as well as battery quality.

Although mSD, HDMI etc are nice I'd still go for the Nexus IMO

The width does sound thick, but it's only 2.7mm thicker then the Transformer 300, and it's actually thinner the first Transformer...

As far as price point. I do agree with you to a certain extent. Until I saw that post I was just about ready to buy the Nexus. What sold this model for me was the hdmi out, the microSD support and the bigger screen. If the nexus came with those options, I'd have paid the premium I'm sure it would have cost...

However, I figure at $30 cheaper then the Nexus 7, unless the screen sucks a$$, this should be the perfect couch surfing/email checking/movie watching while traveling tablet

:)

I've read similar comments, so it does concern me a bit. From what I'm seeing, however, the Nexus tablet seems to also have a whole host of issues.... Here's hoping the Archos will have had time to work out any issues it may first have had when launched :). There *are* a ton of glowing write-ups for this product, so though I've never seen one IRL, I'm hoping not to be disappointed!

Consider tf300 is 9.9mm, the Archos is half an inch thick....that is 30% thicker......no thanks....so as the first gen acer A100.... it is THICK!!!!!

Function is more important to me then looks. If thickness impaired the operation in some way, I'd be concerned. But since it doesn't, it's really a non-issue for me. Not to mention this deal is at almost half the cost of the TF300.

That said, you're certainly not alone in desiring the thinnest tablet possible. Each his own, I guess.
