Not sure if in right forum. Mods please move if not. I'm on my phone on rfd mobile..
Anyhow have an older Infocus X2 projector. Bulb is dead. Costs 250 from more reputable dealer or 130 on ebay to buy new one. With thew age of machine should I buy a bulb or new projector because of better tech these days. Money is huge consideration too..

Thanks for thoughts

New projector will cost more than 200.00.

Buy a new bulb.

I went through the same with an Acer projector - ended up replacing it with a Viewsonic Pro8100 instead of buying a bulb for it.

For an 8 year old projector I'd think about replacing the projector if it is in your budget. If you've been happy with the X2 and don't have the budget for a new PJ ($900+ for something decent) then replace the bulb.

Thanks.
I should clarify as well. The projector was given to us so I don't know how "good" it is. I'm not sure how old it is but model was released in 2004/2005.
We would be using it in our basement permanently installed on ceiling for movies etc....
Reviews on the unit seem decent.
But budget max to replace would be 500 at the moment. Wish I picked up the Benq ones last month for 350 at staples

I would say just buy a new bulb....as for reccomending a new projector...I just picked up the benq w1060 from costco for $899 and it is amazing....best picture I have seen from all my family and friends theatres.

You can buy 3 new bulbs before you have paid for a new projector...just my opinion

If you plan on keeping said projector for any length of time, it's probably wise to buy more than 1 spare bulb.
Paper specs aren't bad if you don't mind 720p.

If it were me (and it frequently is) i'd buy a new bulb.
This is strange because I normally just buy new projectors since bulbs are hard to come by and projectors are cheap (once you factor in the bulb and/or the availability of said bulb)

Where r u getting the bulb from? When my Samsun DLP lamp died, I think I got it from Semi-globe. Warehouse in Mississauga if I remember.

I’ve had a variety of projectors over the last few years- from CRT to LCD. I’ll tell you this- it’s cheaper to buy the $100 3 year/2 lamp (the proper term) warrantee. I also work in a chemistry lab where things like a Xenon lab where and the prices go for around $1000 per lamp.

i've owned a few projectors too. If u can get a bulb for 100ish then its best u get the bulb, it won't be hd but for someone starting out it should be good. Ebay bulbs are usually %55 as bright as retail bulbs btw. The Infocus x2 is a couple years from hitting the decade mark and the technology is old, you could maybe hope to sell it for 50-200 without the bulb. A used or even new 720p projector can be found for 300-400 and it'll blow it out of the water once you go hd ;)

if you want to take a dip for a low cost on your first projector, then it should be good for about $100-130.

if you have any questions about projectors feel free to ask me.

oh yea... there's a buncha scams going on ebay/kijiji/craigslist... they come in various names but a couple of them are called "brendal or hyline"... these guys can pull up in vans claiming to be over stock too and they'll throw in a screen or audio equipment...

they are fake and crappy low resolution projectors.

Thanks. I found a bulb on Amazon.com for $80 USD. I'd actuallly be willing to spend the 3-400 on a newer one as it will blow this one out fo the water because of newer technology. Any suggestions?
