PriceBeat FutureShop.ca's $129.99 with Mightytechtronics.com's $84.95 to get a BRAND NEW Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB OEM for $80.44

This is an online-only item at FutureShop.ca so you do have to call in to get the PriceBeat Lowest Price Guarantee.
I called in earlier today and got this approved so I thought I would share the news.
This will not work at NCIX, I have already tried and got denied. $84.95 is 'below cost' but they can offer you a price of approx $100.00 when your ASPM gets rejected.
I have not tried to PriceBeat at MemoryExpress.com so feel free to give that a try.
Futureshop.ca offers an additional 10% discount of the difference between their and the competitor's price. (Shipping fees may apply.)
Memoryexpress.com offers an additional 25% discount of the difference between their and the competitor's price. (Shipping is extra - Flat Rate of $4.99)
Cheers

Comes up to 76.19 @ ME, + $5 shipping, so it's only worth going ME if you can pick one up locally.
Edit: forgot that fact that BB/FS will deduct the shipping cost from the competitor from their PM credit. Shipping from this Mightytechronics is $15 for me here in BC, so it kills the deal. PM ME, even with shipping it comes to around $81 before tax. 10+ in stock so you shouldn't have to be worried about it going OOS soon (unless they have like, 11)

Oh! That's is true, I got pissed of because Best Buy charged me shipping for the M4 drive when I tried to PM them last week with the NCIX 169.99. Had to call their rep and bother him so much that he was just like, fine, I'll credit it back, but be aware next time. He was probably a new guy since his voice was really quiet and halting, and i feel sort of bad...but screw FS/BB for their shipping deduction policy on PM's.

Yeah, I think this was pure luck that I found this. Sold my Caviar Green so I needed a replacement!
Also, I cannot guarantee if they will approve it for you, since their policy is really up to the representative's discretion.
I would like to point out that Futureshop.ca has a second WD Caviar Black 1TB WD1002FAEX HDD for $125. Why? I am not sure, and nor was the representative I spoke with.

This is a simple question to answer: the more expensive drives are the retail boxes. They have manuals, sata connectors, everything, while the cheaper priced ones are OEM drives. There is NOTHING, not even a fancy box, except the drives themselves, which will come in wrapped in static bags with a sticker on them. That's what OEM items are.
This is no problem because nowadays most mother boards and PSU's come with their own power and data connector cables for these harddrives

I'm not too sold about the whole performance thing on the black series, I've heard the difference between black blue and green is not really that much... if that is true then looking at price per GB purely NCIX and CanadaComputers both have better deals on 3.5" HDD this weekend...

You're right!
Would it be better to Pricematch with the $125 retail drive then!?
The rep gave me a choice between the two, and I obviously chose the more expensive one ==" How did I miss this?!

Surprisingly, the representative I spoke with did not mention shipping charges whatsoever. Let's hope no last minute charges get added on without me knowing.
Shipping charges for me add up to only $4-5 so that is not a HUGE deal.. in worst case.

Standard ME shipping is $5, and only free if the competitor you are PM-ing from has free shipping. That being said, they don't add the "shipping charge deducted from your PM" bullcrap BB/FS does.
Also, OP, you might want to change the "$80.44 (w/ free shipping)" part in your post. FS/BB will definitely chare you for shipping (the competitor's shipping)

The green one will be slower because of the rpm is not 7200, but if you are comparing the blue and black. The difference is not that great I would say.
If you go to the WD website and check out Green drives for the RPM. It'll say "IntelliPower" for the Green, which is a term to hide it is a slower drive which spins at 5000~5900 rpm, so the Green drive is definitely slower than Blue or Black.

For me the important difference is warranty. The OEM black drives still have a 5 year warranty, while the green and blue drives have a 2 or 3 year warranty. I've had to send in enough drives over the years (to all manufacturers) that the extra warranty is worth it to me. It also suggests that they are slightly higher quality.

Actually the big difference between the black line and the blue/green is the amount of cache. The Black caviars have been known to have the largest caches of the 3 resulting in the best search times out of the 3.
Once you go Black, you don't go back.

I have one blue (500) two green (2TB) and 1 black (1TB) that I did a comparison on, for whatever reason black seems quieter and that's about it. I did a comparison transferring files putting them in an external case. Speed was similar via USB 3.0. Black was about 90mb/s, green was about 75-80. Anyways, 1 TB black have a solid rep and I have had no problems with the 2 I own. (one lives in another case and was not tested). My test was hardly scientific but matched what I will use them for.

That's unfortunate... Again, I knew this whole PM bull is completely up to the representative's competence/discretion. I was lucky to get two easy ones :D
Though I fully asked about shipping (three times) and the rep said "If the price of the item is above $20.00 before the pricematch, you still get free shipping."
So I was like....OK!

I've owned two Barracudas for well over 3 years now and I haven't had any problems. Ignoring this deal, WD Blacks are usually ~33% more expensive than Seagate Barracudas. Paying ~33% extra for an additional 2-3 years warranty is a waste of money.
Plus the Barracudas are faster, and only have ONE platter vs TWO for the WD Black. Enjoy your slower drives and mechanical failure. :)

The Black does out perform almost anything but SSD's,WD Raptor but at the price of being the noisest drive that exist now. The blue is cheaper and quieter and slower. I wouldn't want to run a Green drive for a main drive they are only designed for storage and are rather slow at 5400 rpm and not very durable under stress. Benchmarks don't lie the blacks are quick but I don't think there worth the money over the blue.

Problem with ME was limit of 2 on PM, and FS only had 2 left.
If i could i would have bought a box of 20 of these, since i use a lot of them in my builds.
At ~$80 each thats the best price i have seen in awhile.
Before the floods i was buying boxes of 20 of these 1TB WD blacks for ~70 each drive, so ~$80 is not to bad.

All i did was place an order, phone them, got them to PM, the CSR put me on hold for a few seconds and came back and said it was fine.
Basically FS will discount my order and i will get a credit back on my cc, after a few days.
I dont plan on buying up the last retail box, OEM is fine for me.

Same here with WD Blacks, solid drives. Had bad luck with Seagates, and even worse luck with Maxtors which are now Seagates. For Seagate, you will be a winner if it was the former Samsung (now Seagate) which is one of the Best and a loser if it is was an original Seagate and a real loser if it has Maxtor lineage in it. 1/3 Chance of a winner with Seagate. With WD, 2/2 chance of a winner with WD as solid drive and Hitachi (now WD) as one of the Best.

no, it depends on access situation it can go up to 7200 or go as low as around 5000. But don't know how they determine it hence green is usually not preferred

fml. FS totally screwed me over.
I just received the package yesterday, and to my surprise, they only sent me an OEM drive (poorly packaged btw).
This really/kinda ticked me off since I expected better.. so I called FS to complain and they gave me two options.
1) Talk to a 'specialist' sometime later in the week and see if they can resolve the issue.
2) Offered me additional $5.60+tax CAD customer satisfaction whatever.
Being impatient and knowing that they will not be able to fix the issue, I just took the $5.60CAD.
So I got an OEM WD Caviar Black 1TB for $75... D:

$5.60 is more than enough to cover a sata cable. And $75 for a 1tb high performance hdd is still a good deal.
