My wife and are are giving our old bed to our son to take away to university. So time to shop for a replacement. It's been more than 10 years since we've gone shopping for a bed and based on the numerous "sales" that are always available, bed shopping seems as challenging as car shopping. I read through a few threads on various bad experiences people have had with Sleep Country, Leon's, etc. so I'd love to tap into the collective knowledge of RFD members on the strategy or what to look for and avoid. I have no doubt most "sales" are scams. I recall The Bay running a 1 day sale earlier this year, offering a $2,000+ bed for $700, or something similar; hard to believe. Not looking for anything exceptional, less than $1,000 for sure.

Maybe I am exception, but my bed shopping experience at Leon's was very positive. We ended up getting a king bed 2 months ago from the Leons in Scarborough.
We tried their beds on the regular sales floor and the ones in the temporarily "truckload" sale section (not clearance section). After we found a bed we liked, we bought it! Delivery was already included. It was regular $1300+, on sale for $900. When we talked to sales guy, he did not have any left in stock, but when he checked the computer, he saw that it was in stock (and $100 cheaper) at another location. The sales guy ended up ordering the bed from the other location and charged us the lower price after he sensed that we might leave and give that other location our business. I guess each location sets their own prices on certain items. We were fine with paying $900+tax, but in the end we got it for $800+tax.
They delivered the bed on the day we scheduled, moved it into the room upstairs, and that was pretty much it. Very painless. Our staircase was very narrow so the delivery guys did a great job with getting the thing up the stairs. Overall, we were very satisfied. Usually, people that are happy with purchases don't bother writing about it in public forums...as a result, they are usually filled with people that are upset about something and just need a place to vent.

Most bed problems won't start until 6 months to a year. We'll see how you feel about Leon's then.
The consensus here on mattresses seems to be - Costco and IKEA.

i was able to get mattress mart and sleep country to almost go on a bidding ware on a similar mattress.
just go back and forth with what you find you like, have it written on a pamphlet. im lucky the two stores are only 5 minute drive but my 1800 "sale price" mattress was delivered for just under 1400 plus free pillows and mattress protector.

I tried several ikea beds, I did not like any of them. It's all about personal preference.
Besides, it's not like Leon's made the mattress themselves. The one I bought was made by sealy, perhaps you've heard of them?

I think Leon's is not bad for shopping bed. Also they serve good quality beds for customers. You should try at Leon's to shop a new bed. I hope that you will be able to buy a nice bed from them with great pleasure.
