Hey guys it's not a super great deal but still I've rarely seen good mechanical keyboards on sale and I don't recall the last time I saw the Das Keybaords on sale. It's not the Ultimates though so if you're looking for that then don't bother. But $109.99 for the Professional is a great price in my books and I just picked up mine this morning! :D

The keyboards linked above do have lettering printed on them. You're thinking of the Das Ultimate Model S (http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_280_282&item_id=049434), which is regular price at the moment.
Directcanada used to have these at a similar price regularly. Can't seem to find them now.

Metadot Das Keyboard Professional Model S Mechanical Keyboard = Blue switch
Metadot Das Keyboard Professional Model S Silent Mechanical Keyboard = Brown switch (not that silent to be honest)
I have the Blue and love it.

Oh, you're right. Then there are cheaper mechanical keyboard options available. I used to own a Das Keyboard Ultimate Silent s and and I switched to a mechanical Steelseries 6gv2 for about half the price and it's the same. Same goes for the Corsair K60.

Definitely not the same, they all have different switch types....you can tell the difference.

I have the keyless one (so I can use qwerty, dvorak, etc) and I love my MX BLUE SWITCHES. But they sound like a typewriter CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK.

I never liked the K60 when I tried it. All those 'silent' style ones feel like I'm using a dome style keyboard. Also didn't care for the look. 6gv2 is missing Windows key on left side I use all the time too.

The 6gv2 uses Cherry black switches, not brown. It also has a fat return/enter key, which may or may not suit you.
Plenty of alternatives to the Das offering, but the 6gv2 is an entirely different keyboard.

I haven't tried black before, do they click? Or is that only blue? I like the clicking actually! But I tried brown and red and didn't like them. They felt mushy like a dome style one and I haven't used one of those in a long time.

Just got my Das blue from CC, picked it up locally. Typing by it now, feel very good in blue switch. I tried red, black and brown in CC where they display them and you can try them b4 you buy one. I know das, filco and CM rapid are all made in Costar, Taiwan. They all good, but filco is most expensive and this deal for a das is good for a try. I have been wait for a blue for a long time. Another cheaper choice is to find a cheery g80 blue in http://www.hookbag.ca/product/H3C06MTMK/

So you won't like blacks either. Blacks are good for gaming though, and good for strong hands. :) I've got strong hands and I'm a gamer so Blacks are my fav. Red are my 2nd fav for typing, and Blues are good but I need earplugs, heh.

Black's are non-clicky, non-tactile (i.e linear) switches with a higher actuation force than the blues and browns/reds. This means they don't click, and there isn't a little "nudge/bump" when you depress the switch 2mm (the actuation point). They are meant for gamers who always bottom out the switches regardless so there is no point in the tactile/clicky feedback.

You can get Leopold keyboards from elitekeyboards.com without lettering for around $100, as an alternative, if you really want that and the Das isn't on sale.
Although if you don't care about lettering, or don't want a tenkeyless version, the Rosewill are selling on newegg.ca now and go on sale to <$80 sometimes.

DAS are dust magnets and scratch very easily :) I own one
I have no issue gaming with my blue switches... Black didn't feel that much better than a rubber dome (imo)
I'm thinking about buying a tenkeyless for my laptop but I'm scared about the complaints I might due to the blue switch. Might go brown but idk :S
Can anyone recommend me a tenkeyless keyboard that has no keys written on the keyboard that is not very expensive?

But all the non-clicky keyboards feel like dome ones I agree with you there. I think Razer is coming out with a tenkeyless one soon if you want cheaper.

A good & reasonably priced Cherry blue tenkeyless alternative: CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - $64.99 (http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_273_274&item_id=042921)
It's a Costar rebadge, so it's got the same innards as a Filco at like half the price.

Yeah Costar Is manufacturer of Filco & Steelseries products.
Do note that Costar DOES NOT make the rest of the CoolerMaster products, Specifically only the QFR I think.

The quality is excellent. The PCB is designed and made by Costar, and the switches are made by Cherry. The housing itself is also done by Costar, if I'm not mistaken. I've got a Korean rebrand of the same keyboard--exactly the same, down to the texture of the housing. All CM did was throw some fugly labels on it and call it a day. It's a bargain. ;)

I believe this is true. I recall reading that they went with a different OEM for the QuickFire Pro, but I can't remember who it was. It's not Costar, afaik.

The CM QFR Is good, Just ugly branding.
Basically the difference between a CM QFR and a Filco Is the branding only I would think since It's the same manufacturer.. So basically you are paying like $30-$50 more for "No Branding".

The corsair is a red.
"Cherry MX-Red's are another switch that can be considered a "gaming" switch. It's essentially a lighter version of the MX Black, requiring less force to actuate. Some people do not find this switch that good for typing or gaming because it is so light, but others rave for this fact"

^ Doesn't sound worth it. A black is already mushy. Red might be pushing it

The K60 HAS mechanical switches BUT ISN'T FULLY MECHANICAL.
Meaning It has mechanical switches but not for every key.

Decent deal. I've had a Das Ultimate Silent for almost a year now (using it at work, so I couldn't go with the clickly MX blue switches).
Pros:
- I type faster, feel less fatigue
- key feel has remained pretty much the same since new (not like a membrane keyboard that slowly becomes harder and harder to type on).
- great build quality, looks cool :)
Cons:
- louder than a membrane keyboard (I haven't received any complaints so far)
- dirt and fingerprints do show easily (since it's all black -- glossy black at that). I usually clean mine using the Dollarama version of "Cyber Clean" about once a week and it works really well.
I would rate the key feel of the silent switches (MX brown) as just below the clicky type (MX blue) in terms of feedback -- this is well worth the compromise if you are not always typing by yourself. The keyboard is not silent per se, just silent enough.

Is there anywhere else that you can try them out yourself (does CC have display models?)? I'd like to try out all of the different switches in person. Other than that is there a specific type of switch that is most popular and is balance (in terms of noise, pressure required, etc)? I also assume most people here are opposed to Razer? I am somewhat, my last 3 products of theirs have all had issues. I think they are too cheaply made.

It really depends from store to store. I'm in Markham and the closest NCIX and CC stores don't really have all that much out on display. The Markham NCIX has a few mechanical keyboards scattered around the place but there's no big area for it. CC I know the Unionville store has a bunch of keyboards all laid out but I'm not sure how many of those are mechanical and they don't have the Das out on display either.

I haven't tried any of the Cherry Blues before, but based on http://www.overclock.net/t/491752/mechanical-keyboard-guide#post_6009482 I'd say the difference would be the one solid piece vs the two pieces

You can probably compare the sound on youtube. Like HeyYoWL said, browns do have a feedback but its a mushier feedback. Blues feedback is more clickier. They do not feel similar IMO. I would describe Browns as a tactile Red switch than a quieter Blue.
