New coupon available Sep 21-Oct 4h - http://www.bulkbarn.ca/en-ca/coupons.html

(Originally posted July 28)

I just bought some Club Coffee k-cups at Bulk Barn which is new for Bulk Barn.

They have 6 blends - Inca Trail (Medium roast), Colombian (Med), Imperial (Med), Venetian Supreme (Dark), Breakfast (light) & decaffeinated.

The K-cups themselves aren't like the usual k-cups - instead of a hard plastic shell, they have a soft filter type material for the 'cup'.
I wasn't sure how they would work as they don't get punctured in the bottom, like regular k-cups, but the coffee just filters thru the cup itself. I bought the Inca Trail - a little weak for medium so I think I'll try Imperial next...

Currently Bulk Barn has a $3 off coupon, until Oct 4, when you buy $10 or more so buying 2 packs of 12 will cost $11 - 46 cents a pod (One 12pack costs $7).

These have been for sale at ECS coffee for a while now, same price 6.99 for 12. The $3 coupon makes this one worth while and as it happens I need coffee for the Keurig... I've tried the Imperial and find it a bit to strong compared to the Inca Trail. I like the Inca trail smell much better than the Imperial blend.

Since they're not vacuum sealed I suppose they have a much shorter shelf life compared to K-cups.

I hadn't thought about that. I just looked at the expiry date for the Club Coffee package and it's Feb 18, 2013. So Club Coffee seems to think they stay fresh a long time... The bag itself, with a sliver inside lining, reminds me of the packaging that loose coffee I used to buy came in. Maybe the expiry only applies if you keep the cups in the bag...

I've purchased San Fransisco Bay pods that are the same as these-those pods (K-cups) come in a sealed plastic bag that wasn't resealable. Kept those pods in a zip lock bag to keep fresh while using-they do get stale in about a week simply tossed into a bowl with air getting at them.

I really liked the San Fran Bay coffee so will try these at Bulk Barn. Although not as convenient as regular K cups to store the coffee tastes good simply pouring through this type pod-just as good as regular K cups in my opinion

I tried the Venetian Club Coffee (got it from ECS) and it's pretty good... I like bold, dark coffee. Other than not being able to store them in my k-cup holder, I'd buy it again. It's sort of like a heavy tea bag with a lid that gets punctured.

Thanks, pathfinder - just picked up 1pkg each of Imperial Blend and Inca Trail for $11 w coupon. I don't drink coffee, but my husband does. He's picky about the strangest things, so I'm not sure how these cup-less kcups will go over with him, but I figured it was worth a try.

so, when FS has green mountain/timothys or whatever on sale and it comes to .48c/kcup, this is a couple of cents cheaper for a brand I've never heard before? Unless it's like 25c for these types of kcups I wouldn't try it, when for literally a couple cents more you can have green mountain...

I hated the SF pods, but I'd appreciate reviews from anyone who tries this brand.

Well, I thought I'd come back with my husband's verdict: he likes them! He said they tasted noticeably fresher than the K-cups he has been using (a variety pack of Timothy's). I thought for certain I'd be gifting these to the in-laws, but apparently not.

As Zamboni recommended, I put the packages into Ziploc bags to help preserve freshness. I'll buy these again, with another coupon. Thanks again, pathfinder

can these be used with coffee makers that use "pods"?

No I don't think so. I believe they're smaller in diameter than the pods you linked to, so I would think the some of the water would just flow thru without ever flowing thru the coffee in the k-cup.

like this.. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Distant-Lands-Estate-Costa-Rican-Blend-Single-Cup-Coffee-Pods-14ct/15686310These can be used in brewers like the Melita, Senseo, Bunn My Café and cafe invento. Not compatible with keurig machines unless you purchased the KiennaCup at Tweed and Hickory.
