Cheapest sms

Hi,

I am trying to get an Asterisk server to send SMS.

What is the cheapest way to do so? If possible, I don't want to use the major telco's short code. Are there any VOIP provider that supports this functionality?

The only provider I know of offhand that supports SMS is Twilio.
But they don't support SIP.
Their API is pretty frickin' awesome though.

But yeah, for any sort of "low" volume messaging (aka something that could be construed as "normal" usage instead of business usage) it's cheaper to find an "unlimited" plan from your local telco and pick up a GSM modem.
