View Full Version : Transferring to University of Guelph for Accounting. 75% average enough for CA firm?

I am transferring to University of Guelph for Accounting.
- Is the 75% average enough to get into any size CA firm?
- What are the chances and how competitive is the market if anyone knows?
My alternate is to stick to Finance which I am doing. But I find this easier and more competitive than Accounting.

Extremely tough to get into a CA firm of any size if you get 75% from Guelph. Your only realistic chance would be to spend a lot of time and effort on networking with people from small CA firms. you might have a better chance if you apply for non-CA jobs in accounting.

Not saying it's impossible but your chances are much tougher.
In addition, it seems like you just want ANY CA job. There are major differences between getting into a small/mid/large firms & and also CATOs.

it's not impossible, u may have to do more networking and what not since from my larger the larger firms don't hire as much from Guelph. u can also make up for it by having a really solid resume. from personal experience the big 4 are looking for quality leadership experience and a well rounded person. smaller firms on the other hand are looking for ppl with relevant experience who they also believe will be likely to stick around for a long period of time even after they have qualified. i've worked at the big 4 and a small firm.

which university are you coming from to begin with?
i've met people from brock and ryerson who have CAs. they seem like they are doing fine to me (although i only met one person from each).
