View Full Version : Guys, do you expect a dowry?

What's guys' thoughts on this now? Would you date a girl who has little or no chance of bringing a dowry to a potential marriage? Or otherwise has debt that might end up swallowing up a dowry?
At what point do you straight-up ask the girl, "will your family be bringing a dowry to the table?" without sounding too rude?

Dowry?
Do you guys know what country and what century you are living in?
How about you girls - would you consider marrying some guy low on the caste (socio-economic) scale?
I can't believe the OP Q was even asked in this country - WOW!

Its a serious question, especially with Canada heading into a real estate crash, and home/condo ownership on high levels of credit being so commonplace for 20s-ish girls.
If the dowry isn't enough to get rid of the negative equity....should that be a big deal-breaker or not? I'd hate to waste a few years dating someone who is on a financial treadmill to hell, and has no dowry in the pipeline to deal with it.

No, I was financial stable before getting married and we both make an adequate living to support our lifestyle.

would you not know early on what her financial situation is?
do you marry for love or money?
If she has a condo - why not move into it or sell it.

It's not a serious question because this is Canada, not South-Asia.

Meaning what? Canadians are too materialistic to even consider the question is legitimate?
If you're in debt and/or don't have a assets already, don't even think about marrying someone who is doing well. The bachelors better be high rollers if you want to attract a good looking female partner, otherwise the only choice in the pond (yes, pond.. not sea) are the ones that are in debt themselves and probably look like they broke quite a few branches down the ugly tree.
Marriage of love is such a fairytale.

Some of you people need to leave downtown Toronto and see how the rest of the country lives. You guys are brainwashed by money. Anyone that thinks like that lives a very pathetic, petty life.

I know in some culture religion the girl's side is required to provide dowry, and in some it's the guy's side... so... wut happens if both the guy and the girl are required to provide dowry? would they wash eachother out? :)

Wow. "A dowry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dowry)is the money, goods, or estate that a woman brings to the marriage"
Its RFD. So any deals are welcome:razz:
OP better marry a hooker. Specially the high priced one. You will get lots of things. And you never have to work.
