Hey guys,
Looking for a good 17 inch notebook to watch movies and do normal web browsing, word excel etc.
Any good recommendations out there. I don't play games so GPU is not a necessity. It just has to be able to play 1080p movies.
Price wise hoping to keep it under $1000.
So far i've looked at Dell inpiron 17R and the HP envy 17.
Thnx.

15" notebooks can play 1080p resolution movies and you'll have more options based on your budget but have a smaller screen.
that being said, how about this 17" Asus notebook (http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/asus-asus-17-3-laptop-featuring-3rd-gen-intel-core-i5-3210m-x75vd-bb51-cb-black-x75vd-bb51-cb/10209637.aspx?path=12314fa7b2b3c8e424779f61ad371cb 2en02):
3rd generation Intel Core i5-3210M processor
8GB DDR3 SDRAM
750GB hard drive
NVIDIA GT 610M 1GB graphics
HDMI, VGA, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity
Pre-loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system

When this comes in stock it will be the best 17" laptop for a non gamer under $1k: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=74569&vpn=X75VD-QB51-CBIL&manufacture=ASUS
It is pretty much the same laptop as spena posted but with a blu ray player, 7200rpm HDD and possibly a 2 year warranty.

Thnx for input.
Will try to see if i can find the ASUS or something with similar specs. I guess the integrated Intell 4000 chip for GPU is not good enough.

The Intel HD4000 is more than enough to play 1080p movies. It will also play most games smoothly on low-medium settings. Low resource games like League of Legends and Counter Strike will play smoothly at maximum settings.
