Hi, what's the area bordering QEW/Winston Churchill/Southdown/Bromsgrove like?
Is it a good place for kids? Is it "rough" or "ghetto" or anything like that?
Looking for good areas of Mississauga that are family friendly, good place to raise kids, etc, that's in the range of up to $575k.

west of southdown is more like a working class neighborhood, and your 575K can got something top end, most of the homes there are old bungalow, detached or split home. might just go west of winston churchill, and choose Oakville`s clearview, that is a better neighborhood than the Clarkson area that you been looking

I live there for 8 years and really enjoyed it. You have a great little plaza in the middle on Truscott with everything you need, great community centre with ice rink and library. It is a working class neighbourhood, but in my opinion that is a good option to raise kids in. There are quite a few semi's that are tenanted, but overall, a good place on your budget. You could probably get in for under $500K.

Hey
I grew up in Sauga. The city has gone down hill for sure. Not ghetto or rough by any stretch, but if you live near Brampton Peel region bussess students in from Brampton to Mississauga.
Look at what happened when they started moving kids from Turner Fenton to Mississauga Secondary School, murder-suicide.
If you ask teachers in the area if it has gone down hill or up they will say down.
Old Mississauga is nice, malton is bad. Living in Mississauga near brampton is good, raising kids - not so much.
If they stopped moving kids from Brampton to Mississauga it would be great. But as it stands they are moving troubled kids and mixing them with better raised kids.
Edit: You will find TONS of houses for the half million to 600k range.

So Streetsville and west of there up to 9th line is not so good to raise kids?
My wife keeps seeing nice houses in different areas of Mississauga but neither of us know anything about the areas, being from the opposite end of the GTA.

I always thought the area right near the go train station along bromsgrove near southdown was rough, low end townhouses and apts. Its nicer as you go further west. Note that the other side of the railway tracks is all industrial
Truscott is ok. As others noted, its all older houses.

Streetsville is nice. I grew up in Meadowvale, Erin Mills and Britannia area, and I chose to raise my kids elsewhere (Burlington). The problem is a too-high concentration of rundown rental complexes and buildings. Your kids will be going to school with many kids with socioeconomic issues, and it's easy to fall into groups of the 'bad' kids. I sure did! Got into LOTS of trouble as a teen running with some pretty troubled kids. I hate to sound like a snob, I think living in a diverse area (economically) is great, as long as it's not TOO diverse or concentrated.

+1. I grew up in MDV too and I agree with this 100%. My experience was the same and I would never raise my kids there as a result.
Hey bullseye, were you around during the Patty on a pita era? :P

Its kind of patchy.
clarkson high school is ghetto.
I'd want to stay either west of winston churchill, or east of southdown, ideally
I live not far from there, in Rattray Marsh (clarkson).

Yes! From Pete's Place, not Sparky's. ;) Went to Carmel from 1989-1993, wife went to Meadowvale from 1990-1995. If you were similar years, you'd likely know one or both of us. I use to hang out with the Billy Talent guys when they were known as Pez and other names.
At this time, the McDonald's on Millcreek (where I worked) had paid duty cops every Friday and Saturday night.

Maybe it's different now, but last time I visited, there were still the ghetto towers all around the old Meadowvale town centre, and rundown townhouse complexes throughout. There was still the co-op (welfare) building at Glen Erin and Britannia. West Credit SS was still there.

But as it stands they are moving troubled kids and mixing them with better raised kids.I've reread your post several times and even had friends read it and we tend to get the same impression based on your statement, which is.......all if not most kids from Brampton are "troubled kids", reread your post and see if you can see the stereotyping. It maybe too late to take it back but your message has been receieved and many beg to differ since you can not stereotype. There is another word for that.
Being a parent of 2 grown teenagers and raising them in Brampton, as well as many friends in the same situation, I can give you many example of how your statement if flawed, but it's not worth my time.

truscott is a nice area. I do not know about the schools though
applewood is a decent neighbourhood too that you may consider. schools were not top (at least when my son went there) few years back but it may have changed
I agree west of WC is a better area and east of southdown will put you into lorne park schools zone

Okay... I didn't say all kids, I said that when Brampton kids started attending school in Mississauga, trouble started.
Go into schools and talk to teachers. See what they say lol.

Theres lot of sketchy parts of Burlington too, though. I wouldn't say one is better than another, maybe you just upgraded.

Mississauga is definitely soft, but its different as an adult than as a kid. Lots of drugs and drama and fighting from middle school all through out highschool, and its easy to get sucked into. It seemed a lot more critical at the time lol

For sure, there are two areas of Burlington I can think of that are rundown. Wasn't crapping on Mississauga as a whole, we moved for multiple reasons. One was that our money went much further in Burlington. Another was that Burlington is laid out much better.

my buddy is selling his place on Bromsgrove. It's a attached home. Really quiet area. I can get you more information if interested. Everytime I've been there, the neighbours are friendly and never heard of any concerns from him.

Although Mississauga is a very safe place (i grew up there), and there isn't any area one should avoid, it doesn't mean there aren't individuals there who wouldn't beat your ***** and take the shoes off your feet given the chance.
My brother grew up a generation before me and he definitely had it rougher than I did. Not saying it was 'rough' in his days but there seemed to be more little thug kids and what not back then (this is in the mid 90's).
Either way, PLEASE do not move to Mississauga. it's so boring there. you're kids would be much better off somewhere closer to downtown.

one thing bad about meadowvale is the noise from flying plane...also once property price being cheap, the people moving in tend to be hard to predict.
