View Full Version : Weird sound coming from neighbour's house every day???

So there is a strange sound coming from a house behind us - it's not directly behind but one over (kitty corner). It's really weird but not too intrusive - sounds like a recording of something being repeated over and over. It might be another language but nothing I recognize. It kind of sounds like "bad scientist....bad scientist...bad scientist..." but I don't think that's really what it is....lol.
So what should I do about this? Call the noise bylaw people? Like I said, it's not too loud and intrusive but does get annoying when we are out back in the pool. The reason I am hesitant to complain about it is that when my kids are in the pool it's probably just as loud if not louder for the neighbours - the kids aren't overly obnoxious or out of line but they definitely make some noise too.
My real issue is just the weirdness factor - there is nobody in the yard - just this repeating sound over and over but only during the day. Bad scientist...bad scientist...bad scientist...

Maybe they use the sound to warn potential robbers that someone Is at home but they really aren't!?
My cousin In Australia leaves the radio on when they're out and what not.

If you think it's not that loud enough to call by-law why make this thread?
You could ask them to quiet down other than that there's not much you can do.

I made this thread because I'm not sure what to do and find it really weird. You wouldn't find it odd??

Sex sounds are not strange. Maybe the guy is a scientist...

Now, I'm curious. Can you record the sound and post it online?

That is bizzare. Maybe knocking on his door and ask him in a tactful/friendly way if everything is alright because you thought you heard a man repeating something. :)

I wonder if it's a voice training CD for a pet bird?
Perhaps the owner is a scientist and so instead of playing this: [Amazon link (http://www.amazon.com/Feathered-Phonics-Teach-Speak-Volume/dp/B0002FP33W/)]

.. your neighbour has a special (possibly even home-made) edition more like this:

I did think about doing that, and may still end up doing so, but they don't speak english very well. I tried introducing myself once over the fence when we first moved in and we weren't really able to communicate beyond hello.

It is definitely a recording of some sort. I also thought of the religious aspect and that contributes to my hesitation in making a fuss over the situation. But I'm not sure why they would be playing it outside with no one around.

Unless you plan to take action, the noise isn't your business. I sense you just trying to be racist.

'dishguy1977' - let's review the situation:
- you can hear noise from your neighbour's property while you are on your property
- there are times your neighbour can probably hear noise from your property, thus you are reluctant to get the town's by-law office involved
- neighbour seems to have difficulty communicating in English.
- That Polish guy who died at the Vancouver airport a few years back would be alive today if he had just communicated with others via pen and paper drawings.
So, with that in mind, print out the picture below, walk over to the house where the noise is coming from and point, gesture, and make sound effects.
In no time, you'll understand each other and both be laughing.
Bonus points: Put index finger to lips while making "Ssshhh!" sound.

In times like this , it's good to know your neighbor on the daily basis.
How can you live next to somebody and not even know their name or where they are?
