Looking to build a new PC and hopefully use some of the old parts (hard drive, power supply (maybe), case.
I would like to try to stay around $600, but realizing that it can be quite hard. I'd like to buy a better processor and video card, and sort of cheap out on the others as long as it wont affect the performance. Again, the main purpose would be for gaming, and some streaming of online movies, etc

CPU AMD FX-8150 3.6GHz 8-Core Processor $199.99 @ NCIX
CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler $34.98 @ NCIX
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard $84.99 $84.99 @ Canada Computers (can i cheap out more?)
Memory G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory $49.88 $49.88 @ Canada Computers
Video Card PowerColor Radeon HD 7870 2GB Video Card $249.99 @ NCIX
Power Supply Rosewill 600W ATX12V Power Supply $59.99 @ Newegg Canada (should this be enough to power the system?)

No man, AMD for gaming is a big no no at this time.
I5 is the way to go. Drop the GPU to a 7850 and use the $ to get a I5
Also if you're not going to overclocking buying the locked version of the CPU / buying a cheaper (h77 instead of z77) board might also save your budget. And if you're not going to overclock a aftermarket cooler is not needed

Agree ... Go for i5, drop the Hyper 212 (and use stock HSF), get an H77 based mobo for ~ $100, not a big fan of Rosewill PS (use the $$$ from Hyper 212 to get a better PSU) ...

If you want to stay with AMD don't cheap out on the mobo
Get a asus or msi 990 board, and lower the amd cpu to a 6100
Stick with you video card, thats going affect you the most in gaming
Yes , the PSU should be ok, I've purchased several rosewill PSU over the past 4 years and none have failed(yet)

George buddy you're terrible at using the pcpartpicker lol..$149.99 for the i5-3450 is ISPU only, with no locations within Canada
try an i3 build OP, quite capable at gaming.

i5 better than i7? or just based on price?

@game_fanatic, he gets the idea though :P
You don't need a I7 for gaming. I5 is enough. Unless you need hyper-threading or just want a really fast CPU but the I7 is easily $300 range
edit: Personally, using a budget level board with the i7 doesn't make sense. So avoid the i7.

Those are US prices btw :P
An i5 3470 + HD 7870 would be the best combo in that price range.

OP doesn't have budget for the HD 7870.
Here's a build for about $650...a 600+ watt PS would allow a future crossfiring of the HD 7850:
Also, for the same $$, there are better PS than that Rosewill model....Antec TP, XFX to name a few.

Another idea for PSU - Corsair TX or Corsair HX. I had issues in the past with Antec (high pitched noise) stay away from them.
Good bet - Corsair TX650 V2 !

Some Seasonics are loud when under load...others are pretty quiet...see here...350W load: http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/2762/14/megatest-43-psus-from-500-to-700-watt-noise-production-charts

Your weak point IMO is the power supply. It's adequate. Better choices available like the XFX or better models like the Enthusiast or Professional series at Corsair.

The PSU is a weak point.. Memory might not be very OC happy. But everything else looks fine
NCIX has MIR for a 750watt XFX psu right now

I noticed that pcpartpicker listings are terrible, it's useless much better to just use pricebat.ca it finds way lower prices.
