There's all this talk going on between china, vietnam, malaysia, philippines and a couple other countries. Logically and evidentially speaking, who owns the rights to those islands? Will there be a world war III because of this??

No. Not enough international attention is focused on these islands. Plus does not make economical sense to go to war expecially over a couple islands. There hasnt been much proxy wars lately to create tentions.

Owning the Islands lead to the ownership of the oil and gas in the area.

Correct. The islands extend the territorial limits of the country that owns them.

We should send CanadaPost over there to take care of it. With the parcels lost, there would be nothing to fight over.

I don't think WWIII will happen over this type of issue unless 2 nuclear powers are directly involved.

How about the US's sovereignty over Howland Island?

Or Canada's sovereignty over the islands up to the North Pole even though we don't have permanent settlements up there.

China with their booming economies especially have too much to loose to go into an armed conflict over these territories and the other countries are too scared to do so. They will find a diplomatic solution, most likely through bribery of the surrounding countries by Chinese influence.

I don't see why this would be any more likely to start a world war than any of the other territorial disputes happening all over the world.

Iran/Israel would be the most likely players to be involved in the start of the next world war, if that were ever to actually happen. I honestly don't think there will be another armed conflict in the scale of the World Wars in any of our lifetimes.
