Getting tired of having to fire up the desktop to print to the old usb laser printer. I need to get an inexpensive wireless one (laser or inkjet) so I can print from my IPad and Playbook. Any recommends or sales?

Thanks in advance

You can't buy just ANY printer and expect airprint to work with it. The official list of AirPrint enabled printers is here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356

Last December, I picked up a Brother 7065DN for $100 at Staples. It is an all-in-one laser network printer but it is not wireless. At the time, there was a trade-off between wifi and duplex and I chose the latter as I was able to place the printer next to the modem/router anyways. However, this printer does not support AirPrint nor is it ever likely to (I'm not sure why).

I had previously thought that you could turn any USB printer into AirPrint using an Apple Airport Express ($70/$100 for refurb/new) but apparently that is not possible https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4024093?start=0&tstart=0

Good luck...

I checked the links. There are a lot of printers listed as being compatible. No need of using the router as Airprint will work from the IOS device directly to the printer. Some USB 2.0 printers will work through the Airport Express router but I really don't need to do that. Thanks for the links though...

I say brother. It even has an iOS app. For Blackberry, which I own, I dont know. My dad has the ipad and a brother. Brother has the cheapest toners and they are very reliable. I only install Brother in our stores.

I'll have a look at both the HP and Brother printers when I go out later. Thanks for all the help...

Update:

Looks like the HP 3052a has both eprint and air print, so both the PB and IPad can use this printer. Amazon lists these at $70 - $80 USD, so it might be a steal at this price for light duty which is all I need it for. I have better scanning equipment and will be acquiring a digital Ice scanner in the near future, so I don't need that function. I'll still check on the Brother printers while I'm out and about and make my decision then...

No stock on the 3052a. Brother printers start about $100. Good if you own a business but bad if you are on a fixed monthly income as I am. Will keep checking over the next couple weeks but upcoming flyers are out and so far, no exceptional deals like the Wal-Mart one...

I've never found the Brother iOS app to be useful as it seems like it doesn't print from e-mail, apps, or from Safari. It appears that it only prints from within the Brother app, which lets you select from photos, documents, and the browser within the Brother app.

However, my experience seems to be a bit diff from other people who seem to be able to print from Safari.... weird.

No stock on the 3052a. ...

I just checked and it shows in stock online and shipping is free.
Seems like a no-brainer to me.

OP, the only thing you need to realize is the ink costs are going to be high, like all inkjet printers. But I assume you already know that.
I recently shelled out $60 for the HP Photosmart 5510 - also because it has Airprint.
However it has individual ink tanks so I'm hoping to save on ink in the long run.

Last time I ordered from Wal-Mart online it took 10 days to ship. Barrie (the main delivery point) ships stuff to this store every night. A no brainer would be like FS and ship out of the main distro point directly to the store for local pickup. They used to do that when I worked for Wal-Mar 10 years ago. Not anymore though...

The XP-200 in sale at FS tomorrow for $50 looked good until I read some online reviews. It needs a dual USB cord for one and is email and cloud compatible. Don't know about Air print though. I Need to do more research.

Canon PIXMA MG4120 is the nice wireless printer. You will get it by $129.99. Also Lexmark Z1420 is a good wireless printer, its price is $80.

OP, get yourself a dd-wrt compatible router, connect your printer to the router. You will be able to print from any device to the printer. My usb printer is from the last century and if I can get that to work, you should have no problem going this route.

I have an Airport Express Router. SOME printers will work with that connected to the USB port but the other functions like the scanner or fax will not. With the 3052a, I can be assured that both my Blackberry Playbook and Apple IPad 2 will be able to print to it. If a new router is going to cost me as much or more than the printer, then it's moot. My Samsung Laser printer is not compatible with the Airport. Tried it already. Probably the same with the one you are using...

Bought the HP 3052a at Wal-Mart. Total with environmental fees and tax is $49.04. That's a steal. The Wal-Mart USA site says these are $69.00 USD! Finally figured out how to set this up as wireless print from the desktop, Ipad and Playbook. The Ipad is the easiest since there is a print to the HP in the reply to email pull down. The PB has to use the eprint function but once set up it's easy...the printer has it's own email address registered with HP. Just send your file or message to the email address and it prints. Got all my birthday freebies printed out ahead of my B-Day tomorow, so I'm a happy camper. Thanks for all the help and advice...
