Last night, my router was working perfectly. I've been having issues with my iPhone staying connected as well as wifi sync. This morning when I woke up, I'm still connected on my iPhone, but I just can't surf the web. I made sure on my PC that the internet was still up, just my wifi wasn't.
I could access my router's admin page on my iPhone so I know I'm on the network, I just don't understand why I can't load webpages.
Can someone chime in?
Things I've tried:
- Updating to Asus firmware version 2.0.2.8
- rebooting both the router and my iPhone
- Disabling mac address protection
- Changing authentication methods from WPA2-Personal: AES > WEP 128bit > Open System (no protection at all)
- Restoring factory default
- resetting iPhone network defaults

Tried it just now, didn't work. Problem persists.

I was playing around with Tomato firmware and DD-WRT on my old Asus WL-520GU and bricked it. I'm reluctant to try flashing if I don't have to, but I will if I have no choice. I'm also worried that DD-WRT may break the Wifi-Printing setup that I have. Do you know if DD-WRT supports wifi-printing?

Its pretty easy to debrick router. Anyways, I'm wondering could the issue be in iPhone? Perhaps reset the iPhone once before you flash the router?

Thanks for the response.

When I bricked my old router, I was trying to get out of DD-WRT. I've debricked it before, just that this time, it doesn't even respond when I ping it after having manually set the ip to a specific number (ie:192.168.1.10). No matter how many times I try, the firmware just won't upload like it used to hence I declare it dead. From what I've read on the DD-WRT site, it says I need some special cable and software is required to get it working again.
I've updated the firmware to the latest version, reset the router and tried surfing; It still does the off and on thing with most of the time unable to connect to any website.
Can you reset the wireless profiles on a iPhone?
Just tried it, no luck :(

I would just go buy another cheap router. They don't cost much and then you can swap it in and out as a test. did you reset the modem too? i've started to have this problem on my rogers smc-d3gn combined router/modem. i just log into the modem and reset it. works every time. sooner or later i'll call rogers and get a new one. incidently, the status page shows everything connected just fine.

I highly doubt your WL-520GU is bricked. Those things are almost impossible to brick.
Go with DD-WRT or Tomatousb. Stock firmware is always a joke.

I did a modem reset and everything seems to be working so far. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed to see what happens, hope I won't have to report back here again. Thanks for helping!

Any suggestions on what I can try to unbrick it? I followed every step it tells me to flash the firmware, but nothing works.

Did you use this method ?

Alternatively, you can give the Asus FW restoration utility a try ...

I normally use the utility method.
Asus WL-520GU with Tomato is absolutely beautiful :)

I used the utility method. The Asus WL-520GU worked perfectly for my iPhones and it was great for what it did (especially with single link MLPPP to bypass bell throttling), but it did not support wireless printing and I just bought a new laser printer that allows me to do just that, so I had to change firmwares and that's when I screwed things up.

The whole "special cable and software" is overblown. I made the cable at home and I don't know much about electronics. All you need is $5 worth of stuff from your local electronics store.

In firmware restoration mode the power light will blink steadily every couple seconds. If you get to this point then just upload a new firmware via asus firmware restoration utility or manually via tftp.
I flashed 'tomato-NDUSB-1.28.7633.3-Toastman-IPT-ND-Lite.trx' to my WL-520GU 2 days ago. Working well with USB support for storage and printers. Can't flash much more than 3.5mb even though it has 4mb flash. Don't know why.

Can you elaborate on the stuff that you're referring to?

When I tried to flash the router, the LED light was flashing rapidly. The weird part is that when I tried to upload, it says router not detected and stops after retrying for 10-20 seconds. USB support is great, but my emphasis is on wireless printing, which is why I contemplated flashing back to Asus stock firmware.
