I received an email from Acanac notifying me of an update to their "international" rates:

http://acanac.com/Phone_rates.htm

The upshot of this is that Acanac no longer provides Canada-wide free calling as "unlimited calling is to selected areas only". According to Fergless of the Acanac Community Forums these new rates apply to everyone (https://community.acanac.com/acanac/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=22587) and not just users of their free VOIP service. So among other things, I now pay a per minute charge to phone 416 numbers from my 416 number.

Can anyone recommend a new VOIP provider? I have a number of services and accounts tied to my VOIP number, so the new service being able to port my number is a high priority.

I have a line with them as well and received the same email this afternoon. I will definitely be switching.
My brother has his phone service with Voipgo for the past 2 years and he said that he is satisified.
I have looked into moving my number to Voipgo and they said that they can port my Mississauga number no problem.
I am sure your 416 number won't be an issue either.

Can anyone else vouch for Voipgo or recommend another provider?

I never heard of Voipgo. Refer to my post!

iTalkBB has been great for me.. No real issues but I do understand that If you ever do have problems and need to call customer service Is where It sucks because I think most of them don't really talk proper English.

According to this post (https://community.acanac.com/acanac/viewtopic.php?p=121691#p121691) a number of the changes in the rate table were in error.

I received the same notification today and I am now looking for another Canadian provider that will be able to port my number, allow me to bing my own ATA and provide me with unlimited calling to the US and Canada.

I found few but I don't know how good they are:

G3telecom $14.99/month
Voip.com $14.95/month (but this is not Canadian)
AXVoice $8.95/month (but this is not Canadian)

Can someone vouch for any of this VoIP providers?

I'm happy with voip.ms ..I pay a 1/2cent a minute for outgoing calls and 1 cent a minute for incoming calls..I think that's all of North America. II don't call international but those rates are on their site. I also pay for my DID (my incoming phone number that I ported over) that's .99 cents a month. That's all I pay..my bill is usually around $3 a month.

Acanac Voip offered now for one year free is other gimmick. The service is working god but when you get hocked up with them they will never reply to your email, answer to your call or cancel your subscription.
