I searched Hotforum but didn't find any post so want to give it a try:
I just ordered this 7" GPS Magellan RM1700 from TD for 80 dollars:
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6809987&CatId=4076
big screen is what I want but could not find any 7" model from Garmin so this is the only choice. The price is not that hot still warm for a refurb IMHO. Shipping is 6.37 and the deal lasts until 8/3.
Will much appreciate any comment if anyone played with Magellan especially this model.

I have a 7" Magellan refurb and it works fine. We used it for a week trip to the Eastern seaboard of the US and I really liked the 7" screen, it is much easier to check than the 4.3" my old Magellan. The navigation was better than the 4 year old unit as well.

I have had one for 4 years and never had a problem. put two 3M velcro strips on the back and on my lower dash. It became part of my car. It is very thin.
I have tom tom and Garmin and this has been the better model.

I've had Tom Tom, Garmin and Magellan. Many of the Magellan models have features the others don't (such as OneTouch and AAA / CAA recommendations). IMO Magellan is far from the worst.
I recently bought a Magellan 3065T-LM primarily due to the price and the fact it had built in Bluetooth. (Canadian Tire had a "Special Purchase" of them for $109.99). I didn't think I would impress me after having a Garmin Nuvi. I was wrong. I find the Magellan far better in day-to-day use...my only complaint is that, while it has life time traffic alerts, there is frequently no data available in my area...

Does it come with Map Updates? I have heard that some Magellan GPSs have not had any map updates since 2009 and Magellan doesn't seem to be releasing any for them.
And you have to order SD card instead of online updates which means more expensive map updates in Future. A Garmin with Lifetime Maps would be better option I think.

I was able to updat my refurb after I bought it but it doesn't appear that I get ongoing updates. The retailer description sounded like it had lifetime updates, but it doens't look like it.
I read in these forums that the "free lifetime" updates are only for the life of your model, so I'm a bit confused on the lifetime thing.

TSCC has it (non refurb) for $99 now if you prefer that. Item # 1919767 w/1 year warranty.
This is one of the cooler features on it 'A/V input lets you watch video from your favorite media player'.
