To be fair, this might eventually become a hot deal thread in 2-3 weeks when they announce massive price cuts due to nobody buying this one either.

Yet any other Android tablets listed in the "hot deals" section at regular price does qualify as a hot deal right?

Does not hot.

I don't get why they still think making tablets nobody will buy is a smart move. Maybe filling a void before the BBX phones are (slated) to release next year?.

For everyone ripping on the Playbook, you realize that they have 20+% market share in Canada right?

Yes the devices were heavily discounted, but market share is market share.

They're going to get reamed for this release unless it is CHEAP... popcorn ready.

Haha RIM is cool. They gave me a Playbook for making an app for them so they are ok in my book!

Also I heard they have a few billion in the bank

Come on Spectra, but for those guys the announcement of the full price android tablet is "different" ;)

Not to hijack the thread, and I am no BB fanboy, but I think whenever some people see a little bit of blood in the water, especially if it's Canadian blood, they can't wait to try and take a bite instead of helping a fellow Canadian company or at worst just doing nothing.

lol this is not a "Hot Deal", take it to Computers and Electronics forum

Personally, I like announcements like this in the Hot deals forum for a number of reasons:
1. The title makes it clear that it wasn't a hot deal just an announcement.
2. For as many times as the playbooks have been discussed in the hot deals section, I think posting an update is valid.
3. It's especially valid since someone posted earlier this morning that the existing playbooks are now $20 cheaper.
4. Who is really going to check the computer and electronics forum, C'mon redflgdealer you know you weren't going to.
5. Rim will always be around and will always make the best tablets :p
6. GO PLAYBOOKS?

That all being said, I guess I don't want people posting absolutely anything they want in the forum.
for example, "My boyfriend/girlfriend just won't listen to me" ...is not a hot deal.

This is a Canadian based forum and likely many of us are Canadian or earn income derived from overall success of this country. Those people that want to see RIM die fast will be singing a different tune once the economy starts to affect themselves...

Yes the devices were heavily discounted, but market share is market share.

20% market share in Canada is meaningless. In fact, they have a larger smartphone market share in Canada, but RIM is still seen as sinking.

BB10 can't come soon enough for them, and even then, I have my doubts.

NO SKYPE + NETFLIX still.....like seriously I don't care about 4G if I have few apps to use it with. Way too expensive considering the other options on the market....

No need to check Nokia .. just check RIM Playbook Market Share to IPAD in Canada

http://mobilesyrup.com/2012/07/16/blackberry-playbook-has-19-of-the-canadian-tablet-market-share-ipad-drops-to-56/

BlackBerry PlayBook increased from 4% and now has 19% of the Canadian tablet market share, iPad drops to 56%

So long as the full 2.1 OS is released the same day I'll consider it a nice Birthday present. As for the tab, this area has no 4G network, so it's moot...

lol.....if you think the Playbook is going to help Rim I got some swamp land for you cheap.....iPad and Galaxy will destroy Rim in this segment and when Google gets into market forget about Playbook...you realize the "%20 market share" was because Rim literally gave the Playbook away to their corporate partners to inflate the units moved....

Completely misleading survey. The 20% market share number is IMPOSSIBLE.

The math:

Approx number of Canadians: 35 million
Approx number of tablet owners in Canada:7,350,000 (21% * 35 mil)
Approx number of Playbooks sold: 1,000,000 (slightly old number, so let's use 1.2 mil)

So, we have 7.35 mil tablets in Canada, with the article stating That 19% of these are Playbooks.
19% * 7,350,000 ~ 1.4 million Playbooks owned by Canadians.
RIM has sold approx 1.2 million Playbooks to date.

See any problems with these survey results?

It's actually 1mil worldwide though predominantly in Canada. PB was a complete flop by everyone's standards.

If i can get a Nexus 7 for $209 Canadian before taxes and RIM has 32GB version at a price of $550 Canadian ($540 US) without a contract, they are sunk cause you can still get a iPad for cheaper at the $519 base price. RIM really should look to lower the price even alittle bit.

Is the 4G model going to clear the current playbook model?

If not, this model will probably drop in price really quickly since Blackberry + Playbook combo is pretty decent.

The playbook is overpriced for what you get, but you're comparison is flawed. The 4G iPad is $650, not $520.

^^ It's a $100 difference... But there's the OTHER FACT that the playbooks are designed for BUSINESS and iPads are designed for general public

No way. Maybe they gave so many to employees and the shipment that was stolen was counted as being in consumer' s hands. Lol. I do not see anyone walking around or using the playbook. LOL.

A lot of business ditched RIM products and went with Apple. Also a lot businesses aren't releasing their app for RIM anymore of if they do it's really scaled down compared to apple/driod
