View Full Version : National Caution - TeamBuy - $259 for Beats by Dr. Dre Studio Headphones

TeamBuy has an ongoing deal for Beats by Dr. Dre Studio Headphones ($259 for a pair). Just a warning that despite the $259 price, it's still possible for these to be fakes, despite the description stating 'authentic'. In addition, as per the fine print, these are final sale, so no going back to Teambuy if they are fake. Teambuy does not state where they are sourcing these from (unlike past group deals for similar products, where in at least one case, the vendor was identified as a Chinese company (who happened to be on the list of blacklisted dealers (http://www.monstercable.com/counterfeit/dealers_blk.asp)!)). Note that I have no interest in Monster/Beats products, just posting this as a friendly reminder to those who may automatically think that because a company states they are authentic, they are. All Teambuy may have done is asked the vendor if they are authentic, and of course after the vendor said 'yes', they have posted this on the deal page.

Sigh, notice that there are more "warning" posts in this forum now than there are good deal posts? (Well, I exaggerate - slightly - but still ....)

Hello my name is Jeff Stewart with Teambuy.ca and I put this offer together for the Monster Beats Headphones. They are 100% authentic and although we are not disclosing our supply source for competitive reasons customers can verify authenticity with Monster by providing the serial number when they receive the product.

Cheers Jeff

Are they 100% new? Im willing to bet they are refubs if they are selling it that low. Any warranty? None of that is stated.

+1.. Also with Teambuys horrible customer service and inability to provide timely refunds I would stay FAR FAR way from this "deal"

My poor memory and all, but isn't there someone who's really from Teambuy who already has an account on RFD? I know a few of the deal sites do, perhaps not Teambuy?

FYI most, if not all, companies will never authenticate items purchased from third parties due to grey market products and counterfeits. The only way to know if something is genuine is to buy it from an authorized retailer. However, you always keep your suppliers names confidential so there is no way to know if they are legit. If you refuse to give the name of the supplier, there is only one conclusion, the products are fake or grey market. I don't know of a single legit company that keeps their suppliers private, unless they are trying to hide something.

What I don't understand is why people would want to spend money just to look like everyone else? I saw some girl wear Beats headphones and I just shook my head at that.

eeksh... why people still buy an overpriced product like that when it's sub-par to anything in that price category made by people who know a thing or two about music is beyond me...

if you wanted to spend $250 on a pair of headphones that actually sound good, get the best bang for your buck and check these out:

http://www.sennheiser.ca/live/senn/produit/en/643/13

I dare you to test drive these at Steve's or Moog or one of those stores and then actually go buy Beats headphones instead... I double dare you!

Agreed. Monster is clear that they only honour warranties from items purchased from authorized dealers, and I really doubt Teambuy counts. I don't think it's worth the risk, considering the number of complaints over broken headphones.

In any case, if you're buying for sound quality, there are many better, cheaper options out there. If you're looking for a fashion accessory, then it might be better to just buy an "Inspired" pair from China.

Hello they are brand new and sealed (Not Refurbished) They will carry the same warranty as purchasing from any other authorized vendor. We have purchased these from an AUTHORIZED distributor which allows us to resell the product in Canada.

Hello, yes Monster will warrant the product. If necessary you can call in to Teambuy and the CEC Team will give the necessary info for you to provide Monster to warrant the product.

Hey Mr. 4 posts. We have no reason to believe you, especially since you refuse to name the distributor. Stay the hell away from this garbage.

If they are brand new, why do they not come with accessories that come with the retail version? Without proof of purchase of the vendor, Monster will not honour the warranty (since the only proof of purchase is a receipt from TeamBuy which is NOT an authorized dealer).

Hi All, the following is the email response I received from Beats by Dre™ Support. I would ask for a refund if you already purchase the item. Since Teambuy is not an authorized reseller...one should question where the products is from? Even chain stores like BestBuy might not have 100+ Authentic Dr.Dre Headphones in stock.

So I'm guessing that you'll have to send the headphones to Teambuy, who will then get service from the distributor. There is no way I would trust Teambuy in this instance, considering your customer service's horrible reputation.

The Beats headphones are about a mix of performance and style rather than just good sound quality. Those headphones that you posted, while likely very high quality, would look kind of strange outside of a studio. Obviously advertising, hype, and celebrity endorsement make up a good chunk of the price, but trying to design something that looks good is also a big part of it. If you only care about sound quality, than Beats certainly are not the best deal.

I wouldn't buy these even if they were 50 bucks, but it simply really isn't my style.

That's irrelevant. He wasn't even able to create valid serial numbers. He just found out how manufacturers made sense of them.

whether or not Beats are good headphones is completely irrelevant to this thread. what matters is what's posted above - i can only imagine the headaches one will encounter if they try and send their headphones in for a warranty repair.

It is pretty disturbing to see so many of them getting into shady stuff like this. It really hurts their credibility.

Lately pretty much every deal site that used to have good local deals now sells just made in china crap.
Even the RFD list with all the deals, nothing decent at all just products that will break.

I really would not trust Teambuy.
They will not refund me the $8 they owe me, even after calling and emailing many times
-so how can you expect teambuy to refund a $200+ item.
