Thanks, but I only download from official site.

I am disappointed that they didn't add a shutdown button on the home screen. Why is Microsoft so stubborn, it not like they are the gold like 10 years ago. Dropping the Start menu and Shutdown button may come back and bite them hard, otherwise this is the most interesting GUI since iOS and the original Microsoft Surface (the appliance by Samsung/Microsoft, not the upcoming tablet).

Looks like Microsoft at least listened to one advice, a quick overview of Metro during installation:

Use classic shell , works well

Personally, I am fine because i understand the idea behind the developers but they forget familiarity is a big part in UI design too. I am sure many existing Windows users will get pissed off by the new design.

thanks for the link of the classic shell, it looks good. I don't think this is the only Win8 Start Menu skin available. I heard there are other developers promise to bring Start menu back on Metro Desktop mode. Do you know other Start Menu skin?

I have tried many since I installed Win8 consumer review. and now using Win8 Release Preview
and classic shell is the one I like best, Closer to real Windows Start menu.

others are

Does the 64bit RTM release need a key during install?

Been using Win8 on my laptop for a while now (RP, then RTM a few days ago), and I really like the new interface. The Start screen is much better than the Start menu, and UI elements on the desktop have been improved greatly.

Since windows 7, when you install you can select to skip and not to enter a key

Well I Can get the RTM release like many of us here but if it's gonna nag me about a key over and over I'm not gonna bother

Update: didn't need a key. Can't be activated so can't customize anything and I absolutely hate the metro ui

no RTM yet on MSDN subscriber site :(

edited: not sure if this is official, saw this comment: "MSDN and TechNet Windows 8 RTM will be available at 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time.". So tonight? Funny, the last time I was so excited for a M$ product was the Win95 release after being a beta tester.

I will only believe it until I see it myself. There are talks that M$ will sell the Surface RT for $199.99, impossible imo since it has a 10" screen and integrated case/keyboard.

I never got my MSDN email when I signed up, so it might be a good time to ask what's up and get a login.

Or we are only allow to install on the computer that download to it?
(I'm waiting for MSDNAA/Dreamspark Premium)

No, Dreamspark sucks now, doesn't even have Win 7 after the last fiasco. I have checked ACM and IEEE accounts.

MyDigitalLife (that blog where most windows cracks end up) claims somebody has a win8 crack running, I haven't checked if its a legitimate claim though or if it's released to the public.

Pretty much everyone was buying MSDN memberships from ACM and IEEE memberships when W7 RTM came out on MSDN. There is technically a requirement to becoming a member for those but I think people just pretended they were students or pretended they were in the business to get cheap memberships (like 20-40 bucks). Each MSDNAA account could get like 8 keys (2 in each language for x86 and x64 versions) which resulted in Windows 7 being completely pulled from MSDN for ACM and IEEE. I'm not sure about other MSDN subscribers but Win 7 got pulled from those 2 for sure.

FYI for Windows 8 Enterprise users - there is no longer a button in the activation dialog to change the activation key, and since the enterprise version is pre-pidded with an expired key, the only way you can change the key is to,
Open an elevated command prompt,
Run this command : slmgr.vbs /ipk "Key"

I ran the DVD on my Win 7 machine and it told me what to uninstall. Mind you I had to uninstall Asus AISuite, and Microsoft security essentials since they were not compatible. Other than that it installed ok, and ATI catalyst, and Intel matrix drivers still seems to be working.

I made a few wishes when I tried the beta/RC. Tutorial, Start Menu, Shutdown shortcut. Looks like only Tutorial is added. On the bright side, there are apps to simulate the Start Menu. And small tile to act like Shutdown shortcut.

Microsoft is quite stupid. They can't serve so many users at once downloading their OS. It's inefficient. They should use bitorrenting.

Windows 8 evaluation for developers

The Windows 8 Enterprise 90-day evaluation is available to developers to build and test Windows 8 apps on the final version of Windows 8. After installing Windows 8, go to the Windows Dev Center developer downloads page to install Visual Studio 2012 and related tools to build Windows 8 apps.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/jj554510.aspx

So you can use it for 90 days for free.

The evaluation edition will expire and cannot be upgraded.
To upgrade, the evaluation must be uninstalled and a non-evaluation version of Windows must be re-installed from your original installation media.
Consider running the evaluation edition in a virtual environment or installing on a separate hard drive or partition. The will allow you to upgrade your original Windows installation to Windows 8.
During registration (required) you must login with a Microsoft account and provide your name, e-mail address and country.
You are required to activate the product online within 10 days after installing.
Once the evaluation is installed, you cannot upgrade. To revert to a previous version of Windows, you must do a clean install from your original installation media.

Wn 8 is very good but Office 2013 is still very buggy. Built in support for PDF file, no more Acrobat!

Did Synaptic release any driver for Win8? The Win7 doesn't flick very well, need a way to flick on the Start Menu without touchscreen...

Yeah I had the same problem. Where's the f'n start button. But after a week I realized that it's ok. I've accepted the fact that its gone, and now I don't miss it at all. In fact I think I can get around faster now without the start button.

I installed steam, a bunch of games from steam, D3, Keyboard drivers, chrome. No problems with those. The only one i had problems with was Asus AI Suite 2 wouldn't install.
